I woke up to the soft sound of James' snoring. It was still light outside, so I hadn't slept long. I wonder if Elaine's home yet. I'm sure she'll be glad to know I told him everything, and I made sure it was the truth. 'Where's my phone?' I wondered.
I checked all of my pockets and the floor under the bed, yet I couldn't find it. I got up as gently as I could, so not to wake James and began my scavenger hunt. I crept downstairs, and to my disappointment, no one was home yet. I checked the kitchen where I had first been after I woke up, nothing. I went back upstairs to the bathroom and checked the cabinets and again, nothing. I went to my room thinking that maybe I had left it in there when I got dressed after my shower, but nothing still. I went back into James' room and that's when I saw it. It was on his nightstand. Why was it over there? Had he gone through my phone?
I silently walked to the other side of the room to retrieve my phone. I unlocked the screen and nothing seemed different. I had unopened messages from my mom, sister, and Scott? These were messages I hadn't seen but they were open. I peered over at James, he was still asleep. I walked out of the room and headed towards mine. I sat on my bed and opened the conversation. He didn't reply anything to him. Thankfully he kept his temper under control and ignored it. All Scott was doing was yelling at me for something I never even did. Maybe I should call him and tell him to leave me alone that we need to move on. That's what I wanted, right?
I went to the recent calls list and that's when I saw it. James had answered several of Scott's phone calls. What had they said to each other? What did Scott know about my relationship with James? I wish I could get the answers to these questions. I called Scott, I needed to know what had been said.
"Hello" I said, sounding a little angry. "Oh, so now you answer your phone instead of some guy?" he asked accusingly. "Maybe you shouldn't try to get a hold of me in the first place!" I yelled. "Well, according to your new boyfriend, you miss me." he said. I could hear the smirk on his face. Oh what I wouldn't give to slap it off! "Your point?" I asked. "You miss me and you know it. Just come back and we can work this out." he commanded. "No. We had our chance, it's over. I'm happy with James now." I said. Was I really happy? Yes, I decided. I am happy with James, and I won't let Scott ruin it. "Fine, if you won't come here, I'm coming to you." he said and then the line went dead.
What did he mean "I'm coming to you."? He knows where Elaine lives, but he doesn't know I'm here does he?
I called Elaine and asked her to come home right away. "Come home, NOW!" I urged. "What happened?" she asked frantically. "I just need you to come home!" I pleaded."Okay, okay!" she yelled.
I snapped the phone shut and ran upstairs to wake up James. "James... James... JAMES!" I finally yelled. His eyes flew open and he shot up frantically asking "What's wrong?!" I didn't even know where to begin.
"What did you say to Scott?" I asked accusingly, as if this was his fault. "Wha.. what do ya mean?" he slurred, memories of his dreams still clouding his brain. He didn't even know what I was talking about, this was going to be hard. "Scott called while I was asleep and you answered the calls, what did you say?" I pleaded. "I don't... I don't remember babe." he said still confused. I was getting nowhere with this. I needed to let him wake up a little before I threw all these questions at him.
"Come on, let's go downstairs and make some coffee." I offered. He didn't object my open hand, and I helped pull him up.
As the fragrant smell of coffee filled the kitchen, James was waking up. "Babe, I swear I didn't threaten him or anything." he said. Just as I began pouring his coffee, Elaine burst through the door looking just as panicked as I had earlier when I talked to Scott.
"What is going ON?!" she demanded to know. "I don't even know Elaine. Scott called me and James answered while I was asleep. I'm trying to find out what was said." I explained. "You called me panicked and begged me to come home, for THIS?!" she yelled. "No!" I exclaimed. "Then what did you call me home for?" she asked confused. "Scott..." I mumbled, "He's... he's coming here. Coming to find me. To get me." I stammered trying to get it all out without breaking down. "What do you mean he's coming to get you?" Elaine asked.
I had to explain every last detail so Elaine could understand everything, and it took forever to break it down for her. "So, you called him back after you woke up and he said that if you won't come back to him, he's coming to you?" Elaine asked for clarification. "Yes." I squeaked out. Hearing it come from someone else made it so real.
I used to love Scott, but I don't know what he is capable of doing anymore. I hardly ever felt safe with him. He could change moods at the drop of a hat and now I'm used to James. James is always level headed and I always feel safe with him. I just needed to lie down for a little bit and clear my head.
"I'm going to lie down for a little bit." I announced. "Okay," Elaine said, "We'll handle everything just fine while you're asleep. Don't worry." It took all I had to believe her and make it up the stairs. I wanted James' bed. I wanted his scent, his feel, his warmth, everything. I realized that I did love James, and it had taken all of this to make me realize it. I went to sleep holding the last little bit of sanity on the fact I did love James.
Author's note-- So sorry it took so long to update, I'm trying to put Jenny's point of view in there more often since Scott is now being introduced! He won't be a physical presence for awhile, but I promise not to bore you until then!
