"What do you mean I'm one of you?" I ask. Amelie, Amber and Laia are still gathered above me.
"Am I your sister or something?" I say to Laia. She ignores me. She turns to Amber instead.
"Amber. Go find where Ruby is. We need to discuss this immediately."
Amber nods. let's leave the room, leaving me with Laia and Amelie.
Amelie's eyes widen."Do you...do you think he's still alive?" She asks Laia. Laia looks at her gravely.
"I'm not sure. For our sake, I hope he's dead."
By this point, I've had enough.
"Look at me!" I scream. They turn to me, startled."What do you mean, I'm one of you? Am I your...your sister or something?"
Amelie motions me to sit on the bed.Laia looks at the ground and sighs.
"I'll explain to you everything. However, first I need to know about your parents. Do you know them?"I sit on the bed, which is plushy and soft.
"I was adopted," I tell her. She nods. Amelie does too.
"Then you are one of us," says Amelie breathily.
Laia takes a deep breath.
"That doctor you saw? That's Cascade. Apart from running a gang, he dabbles in genetic experimentation on the side. We aren't related. None of us are. But we've all been...altered," Laia begins.
"What do you mean altered? Am I some sort of...experiment?" I ask her.
Amelie shakes her head.
"You were most likely kidnapped at a young age, experimented on and then given anonymously to an orphanage. He did that with some kids. The only one of us that was grown was...me," Amelie looks kn the verge of tears. "The things he did to me...to all of us, they're..."
She doesn't continue."So you all grew up together? With him? The whole gang?"
Laia nods.
"Yes."I stand up and move closer to Laia.
"Tell me more," I beg.She shakes her head.
"Not now. I need to consult with the rest of the gang first."I step back, disappointed.
"But I need to -" I start. Laia atop me."Right now, you need nothing. You will get more information in due time."
I nod numbly.
The doors of the room open, and
Amber steps back inside.
"Everyone's waiting in the dining room," she announces."We're coming," Laia replies. Amber nods. She looks at me.
"You explained?" She inquires.
"She knows what she needs to, for now."
Amber doesn't look satisfied with that answer, but she stays silent. We follow her out the door. Laia and Amber walk in front of me, while Amelie trails behind. Even if I wanted to, I can't escape.

The dining room is, to say the least, huge. Windows line the whole room, making it look heavenly. The long, rectangular marble table looks as if it can fit a hundred people. However, only four women sit at it at the moment. One has a bored expression and plays with her blue hair. Her feet are propped up on the table. Another woman is covered in jewelry and is in an animated conversation with a woman who is holding a stack of playing cards. And Ruby sits away from them all, watching them with narrowed eyes. In her hands is her gun. She cleans it with a black cloth, and I can't tell if it's dirty or it's just black. They all turn to us when we come in.
"Is this her?" The woman with the jewelry asks. "She doesn't look like much."
She has long nails, and she points one at me as she speaks."Yes, Jenny, this is her," Amber explains to her. "Try to play nice."
Jenny frowns.
"I always play nice."The woman with the blue hair snorts.
"Yeah. And Laia doesn't have a stick up her ass."Laia frowns at her.
"Hilarious, Raine," she growls.Ruby clears her throat.
Everyone turns to her.
"Cascade," she says. It's a single word, but all of a sudden everyone looks more alert, and the atmosphere in the room suddenly turns tense.
The woman with the cards lays them on the table. She has a straight flush."So, is she like us? Did he take her?" She asks.
Laia nods.
"We believe so. She has hidden memories," she explains. The woman frowns.
"Will this affect business at the casino?" She asks.
Laia shales her head.
"I don't see why it would, Sarah."Sarah sits back in her chair.
"Good. I don't want any mess in my casino."Raine lets out another sigh.
"You do realize it's our casino, right?"
Sarah looks at her."Maybe. But I'm the one who runs it."
Amber slams her hand down kn the table.Everyone except Ruby jumps.
"We don't have time to fight," she growls. "We need to figure out what connections she had to Cascade, and why he let her go when he kept the rest of us."The other nod sheepishly. Then Jenny speaks up.
"What does she have to say about this?" She asks. They all look at me expectantly.
I back away.
"I really don't -" I begin to stutter. Amber stops me.
"She knows less about him than we do. She can't help us here."
"Then why is she here?" Sarah asks, aggrieved.
"Because she knows something about Cascade, and she is like us. He probably did similar things to her as he did with us."
Amber's voice is no longer flirty or friendly. It's still confident, but it has rage behind it. Not rage like Laia's which is wild and unhinged, but a darker rage. A more festering, closed rage. Similar to Ruby's.
No one speaks for a few seconds. Then Ruby finally talks."How do we find out if she really is like us?" She poses a good question.
"Genetic tests. If she is like us, she'll have some slight abnormalities."
Everyone agrees with Laia, bidding and making small hums of approval. I just stand there awkwardly, not knowing what to do. I can't run; I have too many questions. And I sure as hell can't ask anyone else. I jump when they begin to rise from the table. They group together and leave me at the side of the room. I hear Raine's voice being whispered, and a groan.
"Fine," she mutters. "I'll get what you need."
She leaves the room.
"Am I still staying with Amber?" I ask Laia as the gang beings to exit the room.
"Yes," Laia replies, and leaves the room as well. They all trickle out, until only Amber and I are left.
