'Just another sunny day I guess' Blackfang hissed as the red hot sun glared down on the open clearing, where cats were rested under trees, trying to get shade and cool themselves down. The usual bright, springy green grass had turned a sullen dusty brown and the clear blue lake had completely dried up. Even the small potholes around where the camp entrance were drowned out. Toadsong lay beside Blackfang under a big sun parched tree. Toadsong's tortieshell pelt was dryer than usual and her crystal blue eye were a darkened out grey. She listened to Blackfang moan about the sun patiently, trying not to get angry. 'The fresh kill pile is desperate but I got 2 voles and a mouse!' Dustclaw came bounding out from the fresh kill pile, mumbling out of his jaws which held the prey in them. Toadsong noticed the prey was quite shrivelled up and dry. 'Thanks' Blackfang mewed slowly and uncertainly. Dustclaw looked terrible, his whiskers were drooped and his tail dragged along behind him as he walked. Blackfang and Toadsong bit into their voles, expecting a juicy delicious bite. Toadsong chewed on the vole slowly, suddenly flavour filled her mouth. But not a good flavour. It tasted like twolegs mixed with herbs. She ate it, trying to look like she enjoyed it. She peered over at Blackfang who's eyes were clenched in disgust. Dustclaw didn't look too pleased either. She quickly swallowed it and said. 'Im going to see something with Heatherstar.' She mewed in an important tone. Blackfang's eyes darted towards hers. 'Ill come too' He pressed. Toadsong was about to say no but let him accompany her, just in case. They padded over to the leaders den silently, not saying anything about what Toadsong wanted to ask Heatherstar. They finally reached the den, it looked very different than usual. The usual thriving pine needles were falling off and the mud that kept the stones building the den was dry and falling off occasionally. 'Hello? Heatherstar?' Dustclaw asked as they entered the den. There was herbs and half eaten mice everywhere and stuffed in the corners were pieces of stone and leaves. 'Oh why hello young warriors! What brings you here?' Heatherstar emerged from the dark, her sooty grey pelt camouflaged against the rocks. 'Im here to ask about patrols!' Toadsong announced. 'Patrols? Oh yeah!' Heatherstar replied nonchalantly. 'We need more patrols! Maybe 5 a day?' Toadsong asked nervously. 'Great Idea! Im on it, but for now goodbye!!!!' Heatherstar ushered them out of her den quickly and impatiently. Toadsong wondered why she had pushed them out so quickly. She looked back to see Heatherstar coughing loudly, in fact she looked quite sick...
