The next week was bound to be a good one. Mme. Corella had taken the week off to rest up her voice. Miss Donovan had also taken the week to go back to New Jersey to take care of expense issues. So that left Kristine and James alone. It especially left Kristine to sing.
James took no chance in not allowing Kristine to spread her wings. He allowed her to sing whenever and wherever she wanted. He even allowed her to sing Mme. Corella's pieces from his opera. The voice he had longed for was set free. James was under Kristine's spell. His musical desires were getting the better of him.
Megan had stayed behind with the rest of the chorus girls. She understood that her mother wanted Kristine and her voice gone for good. Even if that meant death. Megan kept in constant contact with her mother and made sure she knew what Kristine was up to.
"She will get her punishment when I return, Megan." Miss Donovan said over the phone. "Let her sing now; let her wings grow and stretch. Then when I return, I will clip them for good!"
"Yes, mother." Megan hung up the phone and smiled brightly. She didn't like Kristine, and she didn't understand why anyone did. Kristine was just a snobby little brat that did nothing but read and have her head filled with fantasies. What good had that ever gotten anyone? Besides, Kristine was stealing what was rightfully Megan's: James' attention; her spotlight.
"She'll get what she deserves soon enough." Megan hissed as she watched Kristine sing on stage.

The week was short lived, however, and Mme. Corella and Miss Donovan returned quite hastily. Kristine didn't sing or talk much. She returned to her hollow being. The chain had been brought back, and it was choking her more than ever.
James had gone into somewhat of a fit of depression. He didn't know what to do about Kristine and her lovely voice. On one hand he longed to let it soar, and on the other he wanted to please Mme. Corella with her spotlight. Instead of deciding, James took up drinking; and with less than three weeks before the debut performance it wasn't good timing.
None the less with Mme. Corella and Miss Donovan back, Megan was at ease it seemed. She had seen her mother and Mme. Corella talking in the hallway the night they had gotten back. Megan had hidden around a corner to listen.
"Mme. Corella, I have some bad news." Miss Donovan whispered.
Corella looked at her suspiciously. "What could be so horrible?"
"It's about James and Kristine again." Miss Donovan continued. "I think James is thinking about letting her sing."
"Oh I see." Mme. Corella smiled a little. "James, however, would never do that to me. He is too ignorant. Your sources must be wrong." She laughed a little.
Miss Donovan was insulted. "No I can assure you they are not. I heard that James was training her personally, and even allowing her to sing some of your songs."
"What!" Mme. Corella yelled.
It made Megan jump a little.
"Shh..." Miss Donovan hushed her. "Did you hear that?" She turned toward where Megan had hidden.
Megan slid back, holding her hand over her mouth so she couldn't gasp.
Mme. Corella laughed a little. "You are paranoid. Besides, if James wishes to abandon me I have something on him. He wouldn't dare do anything rash." A sardonic grin came across her face.
"Hmm...alright. What are we talking here. Fraud? Wrong full practices?" Miss Donovan asked.
"No worse." Mme. Corella reached into her purse and pulled out a yellow file folder. "Here."
