Love is an illusion

Chapter 4

Sliding my hand over the worn-out texture of the leather books cover, I began to read the journey of my love.

"Dear diary, he's gone...they're all gone...the pain he caused was endless, but the role he filled kept me sane...Dad....I can't tell if I miss you or not...I can't tell if the pain was worth the void you filled or if I'm relieved that the pain you once caused is finally gone."

He...he abused her...why would she hide this from me? Realization hitting me as the ink-stained paper gave me every detail of the worst of her life. Eye's glued to the book; I kept going.

"Dear diary, I'm trying so hard..to keep going after he left. The pain I caused him was endless. I deserved the pain he gave me. The feeling keeps growing. The longing."

What longing?!

"Dear diary, it happened again....the longing came over me, and I couldn't hold it down. The days move slower, and it drives crazy. I can't help it...the longing calms me down...makes me sane..."

What...what is this longing...dammit, why don't I know of this part of her life. If I knew...

"Dear diary-"

"Vlad."

Eyes shooting up to see who came relief fills me as the nurse walks in. Closing the book, I clasp it tight as I stand to talk to the nurse.

"Vlad, you need to leave the room. We need to take some tests."

"Tests...what tests? Why do you need to take any more tests?" The worry settled, and the questions began.

"Relax...it's just a check-up. We have to keep checking up on her." the nurse stated calmly.

Relief...

"Okay...just...call me as soon as you finish, okay."

"Sure"

Walking out of the room, I decided to get somethingto eat. Searching for the huge sign labelled cafeteria, I finally found it.Making my way through the dozen tables, I headed to the buffet and started addinga variety of food on my tray and heading to an empty table. Picking up mysandwich and taking a bite, I finally put my uneasy stomach to rest.

"Dude...are you good?

I look up and finally take note of the 5'7 curly-haired geek in front of me. Danny.

"Yeah! I'm peachy!" 

Danny's face fell as he took note of my sarcasm.

"You know...we're all worried. She was part of our group. You're the one who had to take things the extra mile."

"What did you say?" Blood rushing through my veins, I felt the heat, and the anger slowly began to take over me. Fists clenching, I stared him dead in his light blue eyes.

"You heard what I said...You know what you did, man..."
