~BRROKLYN~
“Should we wake her up, lads?” I heard a voice say. I rolled over, snuggling deeper into the sheets.
“She’s drooling.” A laugh. Someone poked my cheek, and suddenly I came rushing back to consciousness, my eyes flicking open.
I yelped and scrambled backwards, clutching the sheets when I saw Harry Styles’ face hovering over mine. I rubbed my eyes, then remembered that I’d fallen asleep while waiting for the boys to pick us up.
Harry, Liam, Louis, Niall, Zayn, and Kayla surrounded my bed, and I blushed a little. No guy, other than Austin, had been in my room before.
Zayn was laughing hysterically. “You should have…seen…your face!”
Louis was bent over, clutching his stomach and laughing hard. Too hard, if you ask me. “I wish I’d had a camera!”
I flipped the covers off me, swinging my legs over the edge of my bed. When I looked in the mirror, I really wished I hadn’t. I had creases from the sheets imprinted on my cheek, and my hair was beyond helpless. I combed my fingers through it uselessly. “How long was I asleep?”
“They just got here,” Kayla replied, taking my hand. “So only about 30 minutes.”
“Why’d you let them in?” I teased, pulling gently on a lock of her dark brown hair.
“Aw, come on,” Zayn said cheekily. “Just look at us.” All five boys pressed their faces together, giving me an adorable puppy dog look. I laughed, pulling out my phone and snapping a picture before they could move.
“Blackmail,” I sing-songed, winking.
As we started down the steps, Kayla tugged on Harry’s hand. “Where are we going? Am I allowed to know yet? Why is it always a surprise? Is it gonna be fun?”
Harry laughed, the corners of his pretty green eyes crinkling. “I can’t tell you were going, love.” He shrugged apologetically. “And it’s a surprise because who doesn’t love surprises?”
“Me,” Kayla grumbled under her breath, and Harry ruffled her hair, smiling. Even though she hated it when people did that, I could still see her hold back a grin.
As soon as I locked the front door behind us, Louis yelled, “Shotgun!” and ran to the car.
“I don’t think so, mate,” Niall said, pulling him back. “Ladies first.” He held out his arms like he was Vanna White, showing Kayla to the passenger side door. She bowed with a serious expression, then giggled when she climbed in. I sat in the back between Liam and Louis, on the hump. Once everyone was settled in, we started off, and Harry was driving.
Kayla jumped in her seat. “Oh!” She cranked up the radio, and the car almost vibrated with the music. “I love this song!”
“’Cause you’re hot and you’re cold!” She began, singing loudly and off-key. I smirked at her.
“You’re yes then you’re no!” Louis sang next, and even belting out songs along with the radio, his voice still sounded angelic. Pretty soon we were all singing along, and Lou had his hand out the window.
We drove for about an hour before we pulled into our destination: the beach. Kayla was beyond excited; she didn’t make it to the beach much, even before she found out she had leukemia.
It was hot, and there were hundreds of other people out. Kayla ran through the sandy parking lot, the boys and I following closely behind. As we crested a dune, I saw kids yelling and splashing in the water. Girls around my age strolled along the surf. Little radios played music by some peoples’ towels. Kayla gasped, hopping up and down excitedly.
