Operation: Rattlesnake
CHAPTER THREE: STEALTH
{Erica Daisy Hale Age 15}
7/17/22
1800 Hours
I woke up somewhere over a vast desert, probably somewhere under the radar in Iran. Below me, miles of broken earth and neglected sand made the surroundings glum. Zoe was still asleep next to me, while Mike was snoring in the row across. Cyrus was two seats up.
Almost on autopilot, I peered out of my window, looking for any landmarks. Soon enough, I recognized a small clump of rocks known to me as the helmatian clump.
My bearings proved right. A few minutes later, we were flying over the city of Tehran.
Tehran was a densely populated but impoverished city, slightly used for trafficking illegal items. Underneath the guise of a bar, small children panhandled for food and money. Dust swirled throughout the city, forcing the inhabitants to wear windbreakers and jackets despite the sweltering weather. Our jet flew barely above them, contracting odd looks and many curses. We even knocked a poor soul over, probably due to the fact that we were flying so low.
In order to confirm our stealth approach, we flew only a mere two hundred feet above the ground. As I noticed this, we almost cut someone's dirty laundry. Zoe woke up next to me, quickly waking Mike. Cyrus was already awake, naturally.
Two rows ahead of us, he handed us back three sets of dust filled clothes. When we stared at it in disgust, he sighed, annoyed. "You can't really expect to go through this city wearing your normal clothes, can you?" he sniped. After much grumbling from Zoe and Mike, we were fully dressed out in sand sacks. Cyrus was wearing a ripped hat with a windbreaker. He wore a tattered white shirt and ripped jeans. He nodded and sat down.
Almost instantly, I felt the plane beginning to descend.
"What's happening?" asked Mike.
"We can't land here. We're going to have to do a LSLA jump." Cyrus said.
Zoe and Mike stared at him quizzically, although I got it. An LSLA jump was a low speed, low height jump from an airplane. It was incredibly dangerous, as the pilot could only lower the speed of this jet to fifty miles an hour. We would have to land in some kind of dense foliage, hopefully protecting us from any unnecessary injuries.
Our plane slowed down quickly. Flying fifty miles an hour in an airplane felt like five miles an hour in a car. Below us, the desert stretched on. Cyrus pointed to a weird looking patch of grass on the ground, about a hundred feet below us and two thousand feet in front of us. As we got closer, I realized it was a suspended tarp, about fifty by fifty feet. Behind me, Zoe and Mike gulped in fear.
"That doesn't look very safe." Mike said fearfully.
Zoe grimaced. "I don't think that piece of grass will hold us."
"Relax." I assured them. "It's a trampoline."
We got closer and closer, finally getting ready for the jump. Cyrus jumped out first, falling in the air for a scary amount of time. He hit dead center, rolling out of the trampoline in a front flip. Mike was next. I could tell he was going to jump at the wrong time, so I may have helped him jump. He screamed in fear the whole way down, but he landed alright on the trampoline. Zoe jumped at close to the right time, bouncing off the edge and landing okay on the grass. Finally, I swan dived out of the plane. Along the way, I threw myself into a front flip, tucking myself into a ball. As I landed, I backflipped in order to assure I didn't front roll off the trampoline. Mike and Zoe rolled their eyes at me, obviously annoyed at my show of talents.
