Operation: Rattlesnake

Well, here we are again. I'm continuing to write everyday so you guys can expect an update pretty much every other day around 12:00. Sorry for that last ender, but I had to do it for the story. I put lots of references in these chapters/just look out for warriors, wings of fire, percy jackson, and more. Kudos if you can tell me in the comments!

Enjoy :D! I'm thinking this book will go to about chapter 10. This is timeline 1. This one is about 1900 words.

Without further ado,

CHAPTER TWO: INSERTION

{Erica Daisy Hale Age 15}

7/16/22

Shakily, I watch as Ben topples onto the floor. His strangely calm brown eyes are sightless, looking at something beyond the horizon. He settles in an awkward position on the floor. Sucking in my grief, I hold his wrist, checking for a pulse. Nothing.                 Pain shoots through me, so intense it almost knocks me over.

Ben's dead.

"No." I whisper at first. "No, ple-NO!"

Desperately I try everything I know. CPR. Resuscitation.

You failed.

Zoe stands at my side, crying, but I barely notice her.

    Your fault.

"It-it's all my fault!" I sob. Zoe shakes her head, comforting me, but it's barely a drop in the deep emotion well.

Never should have put him in danger.

I feel myself going into shock. It feels like days, just sitting there, crying, letting out years of bottled emotion.

Outside, the CIA finally pulls in, shredding the Vagabond agents, but I don't even register it.

Eventually, I manage to pull myself together.

I nod at Zoe, and we drag Ben down the stairs. Outside, paramedics wait for us to lift him onto the stretcher.

They take his vitals, and one of them shakes their head at the ambulance.

Quietly, they put away any equipment and take him away.

"What happened again?" Cyrus asked me.

"Sniper round. Heart shot. Dead before he hit the ground." I said.

Cyrus nodded, and I thought I might have seen a faint trace of sadness in his eyes.

"That's very unfortunate. However, our crime team found links to Vagabond. It comes from their hideout in Iran. But how these guys came from Iran to Washington, D.C, is beyond us." he said thoughtfully.

I nod. "There's no way they got in with all of those weapons legally. They must have been private jetted to Washington."

We were in the interrogation room, a cold, drab metal box only decorated by two chairs and a table. Cyrus assured me that that wasn't what I was, although I wasn't sure.

After a careful autopsy, the coroners had found that Ben had died two seconds after the shot had hit his heart. Strangely, the bullet went straight through his body, leaving no fragments.

Quickly, we had discussed information and crossed out all impossible situations. Eventually, we had decided to continue with the mission, save for some small changes.
