Part 5 The next few days

The next morning Amy wondered when she would see Joe next, she didn't even know if they were an item or if she was just another girl to him. She talked to her friend who said the vicar needed someone to clean the hall that night. She jumped at the chance knowing the men would be there. Her friend said she'd meet her for a drink later to chat things through.  7pm came and Amy pottered about cleaning to the annoyance of Mainwaring.  Mr Wilson just told her to ignore him. When the others arrived Jones shouted hey Walker there's your bit of stuff. Leave it out Joe said to wolf whistles from Pike. After some lecture Joe nipped to the side where Amy was making tea. How are ya girl he asked pecking her cheek. Oh Joe she said I really enjoyed the party as she clumsily dropped her cup. Joe picked it up and winced holding his back. You OK she asked. Yeah,Blimey he said I twisted me back when I skidded on the water Pikey chucked last night and I've been busy humping boxes all morning. She put her arm round him and said dont let Mainwaring make you over do it. Joe laughed, he was tough as old boots. As he walked off Amy daydreamed of giving him a nice massage  . She was snapped out of it by Mainwaring shouting at Jones for being out of line. When they'd done Joe shouted right everyone to the pub.
Amy wasn't sure if this meant her too but she'd arranged to be there with Charlotte anyway.
As she sat with Lotty Joe said Ere ladies I'll get these. Disappointingly he then scurried back to the lads to play darts. Amy watched his strong arms throw the darts. Lotty said crikey Ames you got it bad, you're staring at him and not listening to me are ya. Sorry she said as she watched him flirt with the barmaid. To her horror he kissed Sally full on the lips reaching over the bar counter. Thankfully he was just messing about. Amy asked Lotty what to do. Her friend reassured her she was prettier than the other girls but be careful as Joe was seen as a ladies man and might expect to bed her. Shocked Amy actually wished for this but listening to Lotty advise her to take precautions and that she had heard sex sometimes hurt she was in a daze. So much so she spurned Joes advances later on. Fancy a late supper he asked, No , OK suit yourself he said, not appearing fazed.
When she saw him selling his wares to some young women the next afternoon,  she became more confused. One of the women nudged her and said you're dating Joe aren't you,  ooh he's worth waiting for they say , if ya know what I mean and winked.
The day of the next parade Joe saw Amy in the cafe and sat down with her. When he stroked her hair she flinched. Gawd I'm not gonna hurt you, whats the matter. Nothing she said, adding look Joe are we a couple. Course we are he said, at the same time as waving cheerily to one of his customers. Listen Amy meet me round the back in a mo.
OK she said.
Ten minutes later Joe was having a cigarette waiting for her. He looked so good in his long grey coat leaning on the lamp-post. When she arrived he lifted her up and spun her around. I've been wanting to do that for days he said. She laughed, her tension taken away. Joe do you really like me she asked. What do you think he said as he looked into her eyes. He was smiling his cheeky smile and she adored his beautiful dark eyes. He put his arms around her and gently kissed her. Slowly turning his kiss into a proper full on passionate one. His arms caressing her. Amy responded, it felt wonderful.  Suddenly pulling away Joe said crikey I'll be late for Mr Mainwaring,  he'll have my guts for garters
