Amy was quite shy but loved helping people. She was due to start a new job as a cinema usherette that night. She helped the orphans into the hall to get their toys. Jones was busy playing with one of the toy guns and tripped over much to the Captains annoyance. Walker shouted silly old duffer. Sgt Wilson nicely asked the children to form a line. Frazer said it was a waste of time and he didn't know why Joe had suggested it. Jones joked that Walker probably supplied the orphans. As the toys were given out one little girl started crying and Amy didn't know what to do. To her surprise Joe picked the child up and sat her on his knee and rocked her. While doing this he played eye spy with a little boy. Pike laughed saying Joe was like Santa Claus. Amy felt her face go red as she watched the charming scene. She had heard about Walker but never seen this side to him. As he helped old Godfrey up and proceeded to tidy up she couldn't take her eyes off him. She wanted to speak to him but didn't dare. A moment later he bounded up to her saying. Where do you want these chairs put love. He was waiting for her to answer and playfully nudged her arm for a reply. What's your name luv he asked. Snapping out of her trance she said Amy and led him to the area to put chairs. When finished Joe helped her make tea in the kitchen. She quickly ran out of sugar making Fraser complain. Dont worry taffy I've got sugar laughed Joe. After tea Joe put his arm on Amys shoulder in a friendly manner and said Bye Sweetheart.
On cloud nine Amy went off to her cinema job not knowing she would soon see Joe again.
Getting to their seats Joe spotted Amy and shouted Ere darlin you following me . Mainwaring promptly told him off and Wilson too for bringing Mrs Pike. After the show they were leaving when Jones asked Walker again who he was taking to the party. As Amy walked past Joe grabbed her by the waist and said this beauty if she'll come. She staggered back thinking he was joking. Outside Joe excused himself from the men saying he had a bit of business to do. In reality he waited at the stage door for Amy. He told her he wasn't joking and would love to see her that night. He lightly kissed her cheek and winked. Amy took in his gorgeous cologne smell, and so wished to meet his lips.
