Since the earth is currently being attacked and thrived by machine lifeforms, the humans were sent to the moon
These androids are made to kill all these machines so the earth can be livable for humans again
Here's the catch; humans have long been extinct
It's just an excuse and lie to give androids something to live for. These androids serve multiple purposes, but mostly battle
Such as:

Each android has a human that "designed" their existence, and besides the names such as A1 or 12B, they also have alternative human names

But Scanner models, that are naturally fabricated curious, are the closest to finding out the truth and becoming self-conscious
