I have never been this scared before in my life. Just seeing all of them collapsing to the ground in a second. One thing was bothering me the most. Why was I spared? The whole gang was pinned with darts at incredible speed. That meant that the person could have easily brought me down with the others, but chose not to.
I shook my head trying to erase the fear, worry, and confusion. I focused on what was happening at the moment, than what happened in the past. Ben was snoring away in his bottom bunk while I buried my face in my pillow, hoping to get some sleep...but no luck came to me. I checked my watch. It was 2:17 am, and I was still in bed wide awake. I got impatient. I scrambled out of bed and put some clothes on, then sneaked out of the front door.
Who cares? Nobody cared if I left the house. Besides, I had no school tomorrow. My mind was overflowing with thoughts of what I should do. I headed to my school. I walked to the back side behind the parking lot, where I last encountered some strange things. I didn't know what I was doing. It was just plain old curiosity.
I walked up to the tree where Jade and the man vanished. I was sure that I saw it happen. Maybe I'm going crazy. There is no way possible that what I saw was real. I reached out to touch the tree's bark--
"It's about time you came. I have been waiting" Jade said. I was startled by her sudden appearance. "I knew you were one of us when I first saw you" She continued.
I was speachless. A normal person would have run away or called the cops or did something, but I just stood there... I managed to stifle out a sentence. "You... how did you disappear like that last time? Who are you? What do you want from me?" I asked. So yea... I might have said more than just a sentence.
"Easy Cole, I'm not a bad person. I'm good. I'm here to protect you" Jade explained.
"What do you mean?" I asked
"It will all make sense to you later, just follow me. Do you trust me?" She said.I did. She placed her hand on the tree. I did the same. The tree glowed with blue and red and the roots parted creating a hole big enough to fit a person. She climbed in. I took a deep breath and followed her into the hole.
Once we both went in the hole sealed again. I was standing at the beginning of a tunnel.
"Good, you opened it. At least I know that you're a Hestord like us." She said. "Hey, let me explain everything to you while we reach the base. You ok with that?"
I shrugged
"Ok, here we go" she said "there is a group of people in this world called the Hestords. In ancient times, we were called the cursed. We are a group of people who are born with abilities that an average human wouldn't have. For example me, I was born with the element of water"
she removed her glove and water sprouted from her fingertips.
"The gloves help me keep the element under control. We were created by a man called Henry Buckle. Well... we were made before that. Sir Henry just named us and told us what we were. Some of us Hestords have lived for centuries. Some for eons. And some of us don't age at all. But I age. I'll turn 16 next year like an average person would. After we were created. A new generation of evil did too. There are many demons in this world. Sir Henry gave all Hestords a task. Keep the demons away from humans. At base, we learn to train and fight with a specific weapon with a certain enchantment to it. Like me for example. Mine is a whip"
At her belt hung a long cord with a little diamond shaped iron blade at the end. You could clearly tell that it was a deadly weapon.
"Anyway, Henry disappeared lately. And he has been appearing in strange places. Sometimes for only a second. People say that he has gone mad. His weapon is enchanted to open the mind of a person, lock the secrets or the soul of one, or unlock a person's true fear, madness, personality, and so much more. It is the most powerful weapon known"
"What is the weapon?" I asked
"It's a key... or a blade shaped as a key... it's hard to discribe...it's just powerful. People say that he accidentally struck himself with his weapon and went mad. And the only clue he left behind was this" Jade pulled out a jar full of tiny red powder
"It's a compass," Jade said. "the powder points to-"
"Me..." I cut in.
Jade nodded. "Henry was a smart immortal man. He knows what's right. That's why in chemistry I sat next to you. I felt the jar pull torwards you like magnet. I avoided you so you wouldn't see my bag dragging itself torwards you"
My mind was furiously thinking. I was just working on taking all this information in all at once. It all made sence now. Except for some things. I decided to keep the questions to myself. I didn't want to look stupid in front of Jade.
My thoughts were cut short when we reached the end of the tunnel. I was introduced to a huge... and I mean huge room.
"Welcome to our base Cole Shard"...
