Dear Diary,

Today was my 12th birthday. My mom got me this diary for my present, and so far I love it. I'm starting middle school tomorrow. I'll be in 7th grade! It's really exciting but also very scary at the same time. I mean, having six different classes and teachers? That's insane!

So since this is my first entry and all, I guess I should introduce myself. My name is Jacklyn Ritter. I have two brothers and a sister. I am 12 years old, but you already know that. I live in Quartz Hill, California. Umm, I don't really know what else to put right now. I guess you'll learn more later on.

My mom thinks this will help me cope with the loss of my grandpa. His name was Earl. His wife (my grandma) died a few years back from dimensia. I had never really heard of it until she died, but if you get it, your mind basically goes bonkers and it eventually kills you. It's really sad. I hope they rest in peace together.

My mom also thinks that this could become a little hobby of mine. I don't know, though. I'm gonna try to join cheerleading and drama club this year, so that might take up a lot of my time. But I'll probably just write in here when I have time. So far, though I'm liking writing in here.

Well, I've gotta go now. My mom says I have to go to bed early since school starts tomorrow, even though it's my birthday. I guess she's right, though. The first day is always exciting! I'll write in here tomorrow and let you know how it went.
