I slowly pushed the large oak door open, hoping I had made it in time for line up. The other girls were standing in a perfectly straight line, so I quickly rushed over to join them before He came in. No one knew his name, we all called him He, or The Unspoken One. He entered the room as soon as I got into the line.
The floorboards creaked as The Unspoken One walked. He was wearing his blue helmet that covered his whole face. No one knew what He looked like either.
"This line is NOT straight." His voice thundered out. We all quickly tried to make the line as straight as we could.
"I trust you all did what you were assigned to do." He roared out again. His voice was loud, deep and definitely terrifying. "Hold out your wrists." The Unspoken One ordered. The nine other women in the line simultaneously held out their wrists. I tried to stay in tune with what they did, but I had always had trouble with being simultaneous.
He walked by each women, carefully inspecting the cuff on each wrist. The cuff told him all that He needed to know. Then He got to me. I knew what was coming.
"So! you had a detour, didn't you?" He shouted.
"Someone needed help." I whispered, afraid to speak any louder.
"I did NOT give you your powers so you could do what YOU felt like doing. I choose what you do. I OWN YOU! You made that choice. I don't want ANY more detours from you. Do I make myself clear?" He questioned.
"Yes." I trembled.
"Good. Now go. All of you, go!" We all rushed off to our assigned rooms. Two girls to each room. I shared with Mera, my best friend.
"Girl, you gotta stop doing these kinda things. Eventually, he'll put an end to it, and to you!" Mera sighed, plopping down upon her bed.
"But what's the point of having these powers if I can't do something good with them?"
"Serephina, we both know we're only allowed to do what He assigns us to do."
"But what we do only benefits The Unspoken One. What about helping the people who actually need help?"
"You know I want to just as badly as you do, but He knows about everything we do because of the cuffs. There's no way we can."
"There's got to be a way."
"Well if you find a way, let me know. I'm gonna sleep now though. I ain't gonna do well in my assignments if I'm tired." Mera laughed. She rolled over onto her side and closed her eyes.

But I did not want to sleep yet, there was no possible way I could. There was too much to think about. How did I ever get here? I had dreams when I was younger. Beautiful, perfect dreams. But all that changed when The Unspoken One offered me something I thought I had to take. The chance to be powerful, strong, fast. But every gift comes with a price. I was powerful, but I had no control over my life.
Every girl here accepted the same fate. He tricked all of us into it. But I was going to find a way out of it. I had to. I didn't want to be controlled any longer.
