After our one time together things moved slowly but I developed an unhealthy obsession with him.

On the field during bootcamp I found myself watching him more than usual, the way his body moved hidden behind the material of his shirt yet I could imagine all of his muscles so vividly as if the shirt wasn't even there.

I watched his lips, mostly they would remain straight, no emotion whatsoever behind them. But sometimes I would see them twitch in amusement, often at the expense of others. Yet he would throw his hand up over his mouth or cough or something just to hide his secretive smile. They were perfectly pink and looked so soft, I thought about kissing them almost every second of every day.

When he barked orders in my face I found myself inhaling his breath deeply, just to keep a part of him inside me for longer.

He always smelt like pear drops and his eyes captivated me wholly, like a golden, warm sunrise with the promise that something new and exciting would follow.

He was my every thought, my every dream and my every wish. So why wasn't he making the second move?

It had been a week and we fell back into normality, worse than normality. We fell into non existence. He was the Lieutenant, I was the criminal. Coexisting on the field only.

"Why didn't you come to dinner Harper?" Hannah asked me as I got dressed in my army slacks.

Truthfully I didn't go to dinner because I didn't want to see his face. I was too addicted to him, now I needed to avoid him the best I possibly could in order to protect my heart.

"Nate gave me his metal stick thing so I'm going to take one of the cars out for a drive and pick up some food elsewhere. You wanna come?" Hannah started laughing, like rolling around on her bed laughing.

"Harper, you're crazy. That's too much for me, you're gonna get yourself kicked out. I'm surprised you've lasted this long." I just shrugged. I couldn't stay cooped up inside like a caged animal, which is ironic because I will literally be thrown into a cage if I'm caught. I pulled on my jacket and waved her goodbye, slipping the metal rod up my sleeve.

The parking lot was dark, not much light at all. I walked around trying to find the cheapest looking car to steal, I figured the cheaper it was the more likely it would belong to one of the lower ranking officers. I set my eyes on a small Nissan looking like it came straight out of the nineties.

A nearby whistle made me freeze as soon as I set my hand out on the glass pane. I looked around and couldn't see anyone.

"Harper."

"Fuck!" I shouted as Axel crept up behind me, "you scared me half to death!" I clutched my hand over my heart to settle the pounding.

"What are you doing here Harper?" His eyes flicked down to my hands, though the metal rod was still hidden up my sleeve.
