It's late at night, right after the... eventful meeting. I make my way over to an area that has a restricted area sign. Who cares though? I'm gonna be on this boat for a while, might as well make the most out of my time here. I hear a lighter flick open as I'm walking around and I immediately reach to the gun on my leg. What? You can never be too prepared!
"British dude?" I ask when I see the guy who asked about the 'scientific instruments' earlier. I see him jump and turn to me as I pull back my hand from my gun.
"Mr. Conrad, Colonel." He replies. Oh. He's polite too.
"Just (Y/n) please."
"Only if you call me James then."
We kinda just stare into each other's eyes, waiting to see who would look away first.
"I'm going to ignore this odd... flirting... type thing... and just hug my sister now." A new voice interrupts.
"Mason!" I shout as I turn around and hug her.
We embraced each other for a while until we heard the awkward cough of James behind us. "Right. Forgot you were there." Mason says sarcastically. "So... what are you guys doing here in the restricted area?"
"I could ask you the same thing." James says back to her. (I know I switched it up a bit)
"Why does a geological mapping mission need explosives?" I ask.
"You weren't listening in class." James replies.
Mason, of course, has to butt in. "She rarely does." Very true.
"Seismic charges for the geological survey." He continues.
"Uh-huh. You believe that?" Mason asks.
"Not at all." I reply truthfully.
"I didn't say I did." James defends. We start walking down the aisles of crates.
"Have you met Colonel Packard yet?" Mason asks James, already knowing that I did.
"Yeah."
"The guy's wound pretty tight."
Now that is slightly offensive. "Mason! He was my commander for six years! He's not that bad." I respond indignantly.
"Yeah but the man's a decorated war hero. That's the package they come in." James says back.
"I never want to become like him."
"I will make sure you don't (Y/n/n)." Mason replies back.
"And you?" James asks Mason as we stop walking. "Isn't shooting a mapping mission a step down for a photojournalist?"
"The right photo can help shape opinions." Mason snaps.
"And win you a Pulitzer." James says back with a smirk.
"Hey! Don't talk to my sister like that!" He just chuckles and puts his hands up in mock surrender.
"Okay, Captain Conrad." My eyes widen. Captain? He never said anything about that! "What about you? How did British special forces get dragged into this?"
"Just Conrad. I'm decommissioned." Ah. That makes more sense. Mason just hums. "They offered me money."
"Seriously?"
"You don't strike me as a mercenary." Mason says.
"You don't strike me as a war photographer and you don't strike me as a soldier."
"Hey!"
"Anti-war photographer."
There is a lot of tension here right about now.
"Okay..." I start, dragging out the 'ay'. "How about we don't do this and we actually do something productive?"
"Fine. I am leaving to go to bed. Goodnight (Y/n). Goodnight war photographer." James says as he walks away from us.
"Anti-war photographer!" Mason yells to him.
A/N: I am so sorry that this is so short! I really wanted to get a chapter finished before I had to do something. I promise you that the next chapter will be longer. I think. Bye y'all!
