"Yeah, so then I was like, 'They were on the sale stand!' and she's like, 'You gotta pay full price'," Brittney's is explaining to me the time she was arguing with a shop keeper over the price of some stillettos, after school as we're gathered around, chatting.

"No way?"

"Yeah, we full on had this bitching session!" She says. I start to laugh.

"I'm serious!" She says, thinking I don't believe her.

"I believe you! It's just, next time that happens, ring me and I'll tell you what to say." Suddenly a pair of hands come down on my shoulders and I jump. Someone laughs from behind me.

"Jeez! Someone's jumpy today," and thats when I realized it was just James.

"You scared me thats all," I say. "Whats up?"

"Are you ready to go? Kath says I had to check if you're okay to leave now."

"I thought you were catching a ride?" I ask. This morning one of his senior friends had picked him up.

"Na, that was just this morning," He says, flicking his blonde fringer aside.

"Oh, okay. I'm ready to go," I say.

"Kath Kath Kathy!" I heard aunt Jaymee knocking on Kathy's door on friday morning as I slipped into my school uniform. I went down stairs for breakfast, pouring a bowl of cereal and just as I sat down at the table Aunt Jaymee came down.

"Amelia, darling! Kathy is feeling unwell, she's got a temperature. So you and James will have to take the bus,"

"Yeah, thats fine. Is she going to be okay?"  Wow, it was going to be an awkward day without Kathy. At least it was friday.

****

"Milly!"

....

"Milly?"

....

"Milly!"

"Alright, I'm coming!" I yelled running out the door, down the drive way, towards James. Then I looked around.

"What? Where's the bus?" I ask him. James' face is grim.

"We missed it."

No way. No way?

Then he starts laughing. Laughing so hard. "Look...at," he gasps out in between laughs "your...watch!"

I sigh, frustrated, as the bus comes to a halt at the corner. The whole ride he was telling his mates about the joke. Finally, finally we arrived at school.

The day passed slowly, I mostly stayed with Tayla and Brittney. I didn't have art today. I knew I should avoid boys - Jude especially - if I wanted good grades. In the UK I'd been terrible and I wanted to step up here.

I was waiting at the bus stop, leaning my elbow on James' shoulder, when he came, casually placing his elbow on my shoulder. He was taller than me, with, short wavy brown hair and deep, green eyes.

"Do you guys need a ride home?"

"yeah," James said at exactly the same time i said, "No thanks," shifting under his elbow.

Jude laughs. "Common?"

"Please, Mils?"

"Fine."
