After three days had passed I was let out of the basement and the house was a wreck. I started cleaning, taking things slowly and carefully. Making sure their rooms were clean first, the man my mother married wasn't around much, Harvey is his name, all the pictures just had the four of them, my mom was embarrassed of me after she got better and began to use me like their personal servant, a real Cinderella complex, Kayla called it. I was brought out of my thoughts by the doorbell ringing, I rushed quickly to the door to answer it.  Mr. Bradshaw was standing there, with a confused and worried expression. "Is there a Iona Grace and Karen Davidson here?"  He asked looking at me. I straightened hearing my name, "I'm Iona, and my moth-.." I started and corrected myself. "Mrs. Davidson is out at the moment, may I help you?" I asked him. He nodded, "May I come in? I want to talk to you about something." He asked, I nodded and stepped to the side closing the door behind him as he walked in.

As I brought us some water, he sat down and began to speak. "My business partner has taken an interest in you, can you tell me a little about yourself?" He asked me, I sat across from a little confused myself. "There isn't much to tell, I'm twenty-five, around five foot seven inches, and I make sure the house is maintained." I answered carefully taking a sip of water. Mr. Bradshaw studied me for a moment before speaking, "You're Mrs. Davidson's daughter?" He asked, I nodded slowly as he continued. "Why haven't you left? Why do you stay and deal with the abuse?" He asked. I sighed and looked up at him, "I've tried to leave, but she dragged me back. For the longest it was just us, then when she got better met Harvey it got worse." I answered, he nodded like he understood. He was about to say something when the front door opened to the loud bunch, as they walked in laughing. I stood up and stood to the side as my mother saw Mr. Bradshaw, "Ah Mr. Bradshaw, what a nice surprise, I assure you that she has been punished and will be worked to the bone to pay for another suit." She said like it was a favor to him. "That isn't necessary and not why I'm here." He said standing, she looked confused and snapped her fingers at me, "Go get us something to drink. Girls go upstairs and leave us to talk." She ordered, Bethany and Jennifer nodded and giggled as they went upstairs, I started to walk away but was stopped by Mr. Bradshaw. "Stay put please." He said kindly, my mother looked slightly offended but didn't challenge him. "I've come with a proposition from my business partner." He stated, he explained that Mr. O'Brian wanted to pay off any debt that I had, which I had none, and wanted to give me a place to live, his reasons weren't known but I can tell from Mr. Bradshaw's words that neither of them were thrilled to see someone being treated like I was.

After he finished my mother stood and glared at me, "Did she put you up to this?" She asked harshly, he shook his head. "I wouldn't just give her up to some unknown man." She continued. "With all do respect ma'am, she's an adult, she can do as she pleases." He said harshly, and he looked at me. "Are you happy here?" He asked, I was taken aback no one asked me that, many just assumed I wasn't, but no one openly asked. I looked at my mother who was trying to make me say yes. I looked back at Mr. Bradshaw, and sighed. "No sir I'm not." I said truthfully, my mother was furious. "Fine you want to buy her, go ahead and pay for trash." She said holding her hand put expectingly, Mr. Bradshaw handed her a check, she unfolded it and her mouth drop. Mr. Bradshaw walked over to me, "Are you ready?" He asked, I nodded and followed him out while my mother stood in shock. We got in his car, as he started to drive away my mother ran out the door and watched us drive away.

As we drove into the city, he explained a little more. "You can call me Mitchell, the man that paid off your mother is Reagan O'Brian. He's a bit stand offish and difficult." He said I watched as we pulled up to a luxury apartment building. "So what should I do?" I asked as we got out, I felt out of place, my clothes for rags compared to others. "Honestly I'm not sure, he's a mystery to me, but a brilliant mind and has a head for business." He said as he opened the door for me. I followed him through the lobby and into the elevator, the marble floors shined against the black and gold pillars, the doors closed leaving me face to face with my reflection. "I see." I said, he shook his head. "My wife will want to meet you, I've worked with Reagan for a couple of years now, so him making a move like this is bewildering." He said as the elevator stopped and opened to a hallway with a single door at the end of it. "Here we are, I'll be seeing you Ms. Grace and next time I see I hope you have a new lease on life." He said as I stepped out and he handed me a key.  I took it and watched as the doors close and he left, I sighed and looked at the key and then door. The next few steps would change my life, it couldn't get any worse right? I walked to the door slowly still thinking about earlier. Mr. Reagan O'Brian basically bought me from my mother, was he expecting something? Did he want to use me too? Why did he buy me? I stopped in front of the door, sliding the key in and hearing it unlock. I opened and walked in, it was amazing on the inside. It was the rest of the two floors of the building, the living room had a view of the city and skyline, everything was decorated in a minimalistic way, mainly just furniture and a couple of pictures. I walked into the living room and looked at a picture on the wall. "That's Mr. O'Brian and his mother." Said a woman behind me. I turned and saw an older woman in a cleaning uniform. She looked at me with kind eyes as stepped forward, her black hair with a slight touch of gray, her slightly tanned skin wrinkled softly from age. "Oh, I'm sorry." I said facing her. "Oh honey, you don't have to apologize. You must be Ms. Grace, he was right you are a bit skiddish." She said with a southern draw softly coming out. I nodded as she held out her hand. "I'm Charlotte, I'm the head of house keeping for the hotel, but I also clean the penthouse for Mr. O'Brian." She said introducing herself, I shook her hand softly. "Nice to meet you." I said quietly. "Let me show you to your room." She said as she walked to the room. "When I heard he was bringing in a guest, I was a bit surprised when he told what he was planning." She said with a chuckle as we walked to a bedroom. "Is he here?" I asked as we walked in, the room was warm and simple. "Not at the moment he's attending to some business." She answered honestly, "I helped him pick out somethings for you to wear Hun, I had them washed and pressed, they are hanging up in the closet." She explained and walked to the closet, "I brought some of my daughter's hand me downs as well, if you need anything I'm a call away." She finished and left me alone in the room.  After a shower and some food I laid on the bed. The bed was super comfortable it wasn't long before I fell asleep.
