I was sitting in my room when my phone rang, I looked at the caller I.D and it was Qalum. Although I was still angry at him, I still decided to answer.
“Hello?” I said in a harsh tone
The line stayed silent for some moment. All I could hear were his light breaths and that infuriated me. He finally got the nerve to call me and he just wastes my time?!
“You know what Qalum?” I snapped, “I don’t even know why you called. I’m going to hang-up now and I don’t want you do call me back ever again if it’s just to waste my ti-”
“Wait!” He exclaimed, finally coming out of his silence, “Wait. I...I just….I want to apologize. Ashley told me that you found out about my Ascendant and...I’m just sorry you found out.”
I scoffed. “Sorry that I found out? Where you going to keep this from me the whole time?”
“No! That’s not what I meant.” He tried to correct his mistake. THere was a soft whisper of him cursing to himself through the line before he spoke back into the phone to me. “I’m sorry that you found out, that way. I wanted to be the first one to tell you, but everything was just so rushed that I forgot to.”
“I understand.”
“Really?” He let out a sigh of relief, “Wow, I- thanks for understanding.”
“Yeah, I understand that now that you will be Alpha, you have more important things to address than the pathetic omega.” I mumbled, suddenly feeling really self-conscious I almost never let anything that Ashley or any of the other pack members’ comments hurt me, but Qalum was different. Or at least I thought he was, recently he is proving himself to be just like the rest.
“No!” He gave a frustrated sigh. I knew him well enough to know that he was probably pulling the hair from the top of his head gently just like he does whenever he is frustrated. “Why are you being so difficult right now?”
“Difficult?” I gasped, “Why are you being such a self-absorbed prick?”
At this point I could not stand sitting down and so I got up and started pacing around in my room thinking of insultments that I wanted to throw at his face all at the same time.
“You’re supposed to be my friend!” I yelled through the phone. “You’re the only one left in this godforsaken town that actually tolerates being in the same pack as me, not to mention the same room!”
I heard a low growl from the other side of the line and that was followed with the sound of something crashing onto the floor. “It’s not my fault the pack doesn’t like you! Maybe if you would have a bit more of self-confidence and be a bit more sociable then maybe you wouldn’t be so picked on!”
I was about to protest but in his rage he continued without letting me speak, “And do not pull the pathetic ‘it’s because I’m an Omega’ card! Harper is also an Omega but everyone likes her, because she does not weep every chance she gets and tries to get pity from people! She fights for her spot in the pack, something you have never done because you’re always complaining about how everyone is unfair to you!”
