You never smiled. There was nothing really wrong with you, you just never smiled. The closest thing to a smile was a smirk and that was it.

You always wore mismatch clothes and had dark nail polish on. You didn't give a shit about anyone's opinion. You never really gave a shit about anyone except your mom and your only friend.

Stanley Barber was your only friend. Your best friend. He lived next door. You guys hung out a lot but it was never a huge deal. I mean, you liked the guy. Like, you really really liked him. There was no other boy like him at your school, they were all shit heads.

Stan was funny and cool, super nice and just the best guy you have ever met. And it wasn't like you cried over him at night or fixed your hair when when he was taking you to school in his car. You just had this feeling in your heart like it almost hurt, but it was a good feeling, like butterflies in your heart when you were with him.

Stanley always thought you were cool. He was the only one who understood you too, that's why you were great friends because you had so much in common and you trusted each other. But he never knew that you liked him and you didn't really want him to know because you didn't want to get hurt or ruin the relationship you had with him.

He would sometimes climb up to your window and stay in your room over night because he didn't want to cross paths with his dad. You hated his dad. Stanley never told you what he does or or says to him but you knew his dad was an asshole.

We can talk about Stanley all day, and I would, but we should probably get on with the story.

Each chapter has its own related song if you'd like to listen to it while reading it. Enjoy!
