Dear God,
I quit.

Before I start to explain I would like to thank you for giving me this job despite the time you threatened to fire me over the Trojan War incident, when my arrow caused one of deadliest wars in history but I don't blame you, love is dangerous.

Romeo and Juliet were yet another one of the tragedies that my arrows hit. They fell in love instantly. Unfortunately once again all it brought was the death of two innocents and a lifetime of sorrow for their families.

After that I scanned through all scenarios before I took a shot, until this particular couple.

She was rich and he was as ordinary as they come. I was reluctant to act on it for I was afraid that her father would not be able to handle it.They met by chance, one co-incidence after another but never talked, may be glanced at each other once in a while but that was it.

Tragedy struck in 1919 when the Spanish flu lead the boy to his death. His funeral was filled with ordinary people such as himself except for this one lady stood at the back.

She had gotten married by then of course to another aristocrat and yet she was at his funeral crying her heart out hoping for a second chance so that she could have a chance to say hello to him. She cried and cried and the funniest part was that her father had died of his weak heart anyway years ago.

Then I realised, I was irrelevant.

The girl who I had never hit with my arrow was so irrevocably in love with a boy she had only glanced at, with not a single interference from me. Grief struck me realising that I had robbed her of her path to happiness and left her scattered in a vast field of what if's.

I withdrew after that, repulsed by the phenomenon I was commanding.

Love was a dangerous weapon and I wanted to have to do nothing with it. It was a rose so appealing to look at but on touching it, we are pricked by thorns.

Why was love so important to them? Would they rather not live alone protecting their fragile little hearts that seem to shatter at the mention of love?

After that I tried experimenting. I hit two people who had never seen each other with my arrow. They didn't know anything about eachother apart from a vague email Id.

The boy had a friend who was in love with him with no help from me whatsoever. So when the boy decided to go track down the girl of his dreams his friend accompanied him to help him.

Why go through all that heartbreak to help her friend, who saw her as nothing but a companion? Yet she accompanied him through the entire trip so that he could get his happily ever after.

When the boy reached his dream girl he was so desperately confused at the loss of his friend who had confessed and left him. When she opened the door he realised he loved his friend all along.

Love evolves on its own, no power can bind it.It's like gravity, making us fall and yet keeping us steady. It's poisonous, dangerous but it's the thing that gives us hope. I'm in love with the idea of love and I cannot pretend to control it.

Therefore I quit.

Love, Cupid.

P.S: I'm still available for consultation. Tell the Mrs you love her once in a while, it helps.
