Chapter 2

10 minutes... I only have 10 minutes until I meet them! Oh my gosh, I have literally been waiting years for this moment to come and it finally has! I wonder what they look like, what colour hair do they have? Will they like the same bands? The same singers? Will they have the same sense of style? Are they rich, like me? What job do they have?

I was so busy worrying about all of these little things that I didn't notice my clock, or 'countdown' as we call them these days, had reached 30 seconds. Only 30 seconds left...

Oh gosh, I hope they are friendly. The nerves have started to set in and I'm shaking so much I can barely see how many seconds are left.

10. 10 seconds left. I only have 10 more seconds. This is ridiculous. I am standing in the middle of a sidewalk, watching a tiny clock on my wrist counting down the seconds 'till I meet my 'soulmate' or someone who is supposed to be the perfect match for me. I am actually letting a tiny weenie clock decide who I am going to marry and stay with for the rest of my life to live 'happily ever after'.

8 seconds! Oh my gosh, what if they don't like me or I don't like them?

I think I see him...

2...

Yes! I'm pretty sure it's him! He is walking towards me with a huge grin on his face. He is about 6" 3' with dark brown hair and piercing light blue eyes. He's perfect... And he just walked straight past me... Right, okay then.

"Um, excuse me; can I see your clock please?"

He stops in his tracks and slowly turns around to face me. "Yeah sure" he smiles at me nervously. I compare the times on our clocks. They have both stopped and I ask him when his stopped.

"Oh! I didn't even realise it had stopped; I could still hear it counting down a few minutes ago. Do you think we're...?"

"I'm not sure; there is no one else around who seems to be acting like they are meeting their soulmate, so I guess we are."

"oh, ok then, what's your name?" he asked as he smiled warmly at me. Yes, he's the one, I can tell we're going to get along just fine.

That was 25 years ago. His name is Brian. We're still going as strong as ever and are happily married with 3 kids. At first I thought the clocks countdowns were rubbish and they were going to fail. I was so wrong.
