Kageyama was never one for the whole love ordeal. Dating isn't really his thing. In fact, making friends could put some stress on the boy. So, he hasn't put much thought into such topics, no matter how much his classmates brought it up.
He had been at the receiving end of a confession once, possibly twice— and each time never felt right. Anything related to relationships never appeased to him, platonic or not. He has gotten better at social interaction and trusting others ever since transferring to Karasuno, but he couldn't deny it has sometimes been tough.
That is why he could never place why him and Hinata had started to grow so close. Sure, they may have had a rough start in the early stages of their now close rivalry-slash-friendship, but talking to him has always been easy. Words roll from his tongue so naturally, sentences falling from his lips as smooth as water.
Granted, most of their conversations could be seen as useless bickering and mindless arguing, but Kageyama treasures every second. Something about Hinata and his bright orange hair that is always a mess, his toothy grin he shoots Kageyama's way whenever he feels the taller's gaze upon his frame— Kageyama is drawn to him.
That is besides the point.
A few days ago, a cute girl with freckles (that reminded Kageyama of Hinata, but he would never say so) from his mathematics class had approached Kageyama, expressing her feelings for him. The boy rejected her, albeit awkwardly, and that should have been it. However, during the occurrence, something had dawned on him.
He had no idea what to do in a relationship.
Kageyama was telling the girl no, so why he thought such a thing was beyond him, but the question had already been planted into his mind. And, as far as Kageyama was aware of, he had no romantic attraction towards anyone.
Even with this knowledge, Kageyama pondered about it his entire walk home alone (usually, he would walk with Hinata, but he had to stay behind dud to the girl's request). Do you hold hands sometimes, all the time, or not at all? Are you supposed to cuddle while watching movies or stay a decent distance away from each other? Should you even be watching movies with your partner in the first place? Do you kiss them good morning, good night, or both?
...how do you kiss?
Kageyama arrived home soon enough; the walk seemed as if it was no time at all since he was so distracted by his thoughts. He took his shoes off and planted them next to the door neatly as he shrugged off his jacket. He noticed his elder sister, Miwa, sitting on the couch as she scrolled through the channels to find one that suited her tastes.
Apparently, there were none— such being evident as Miwa's face scrunched up in agitation and her fingers put more pressure onto the remote's buttons. Kageyama patiently watched as his sister began to get more and more frustrated with the television by the second.
"Ugh," was all that Miwa let out as she (not so gently) placed the remote on the couch, finding no entertainment worthy of her time.
Kageyama felt "ugh" at the moment, too.
"There's nothing on?" Kageyama uselessly asked, already knowing the answer.
"Yeah. I've been trying to find something that isn't some news station or an animal documentary, but that's all there is, apparently."
"Hm," Kageyama hummed, letting Miwa know he had listened. Though, he has yet to tell her there are more important situations at hand.
"Hey, can I ask you something?" the younger questioned.
"Shoot."
"...What do you do, y'know, when you're dating someone?"
Kageyama assumed he had said something wrong when Miwa didn't reply as soon as he had hoped. He began to stutter out an apology when Miwa answered:
