Chapter Two - Troubling Blues

The autumn breeze blew on the loose strands of my messy bun, one I carelessly threw up. I quickly slipped on my shades, shielding my eyes from the rays Virginia gave us this time of year. I usually cherish weathers like this so early in the morning. Not so much right now.

Playing hot potato with the steering wheel, trying to keep the car from veering off to the opposite lane.

Getting a thirty minute lecture from my parents last night must've awakened my sleep senses, enabling me to sneak in a couple of hours of sleep before the first day back at school. The ride to school after summer holidays never failed to put me in a short depressive state; missing the way my fingers dug in the warm sand at the beach, soaking under the sun.

I would donate 70 camels to go back to that very moment.

I pressed my foot on the pedal to speed up the car. The faster I go—may reflect on how fast this dreading day goes by. The scene whipped past with the newfound speed. I wouldn't call this town small but in the entire Virginia State, it couldn't be pointed out with a pin.

The sweet town of Stonefall was ninety-nine per cent surrounded with tall lavish trees. Usually the term woods would then be associated with bears, however growing up here my whole life, I haven't sighted one.

There goes the most interesting thing to witness.

Just like any town, it had basically what a mini city would, from carnivals to massive parklands. Driving down the quiet two lane road I couldn't help but think, this town was far too ordinary. I've always considered myself an adventurous person—the only exciting thing I've done so far this year was climb a park boulder, and that alone left me with a sprained ankle. It healed over the months but kept this purple bruise that was constant reminder for me to stay indoors. Forever.

It didn't help that the Council set up extra security and neighborhood watches—to keep a stern eye on teenagers seeking thrills to feed their dying boredom.I didn't blame them a bit.

Stonefall was described as small and boring town with creepy attributes.

Rumors of the creepy stories originating from the incident of the missing cases. An influx of people went missing around the month of March two years back.

In that same year, rumors of a abandoned warehouse where a shady pharmaceutical company were somewhat performing illegal human experiments. Hearing whispers that the missing people may be connected to this, sent shockwaves throughout Stonefall.

The story was a field day for the media, to the point it was getting international coverage. A few weeks following that, it was the end of it. Either the media got tired of it, or the Police Department and Council did a good job putting it under wraps.

Remembering it at random times would bring shivers to my limbs, it shouldn't be something I want to recall in the AMs either.

I shook my head—somehow trying to forget the creepiness of the entire story.

I attended one of the many school districts across Stonefall, Quenston High. It had many schools that deemed each other rivals. Only legal way they battle they hatred, is through football tournaments—that the rest of the school body are forced to attend. I could count with all my fingers on what I would rather be doing than watch a field of testosterone fighting over a tacky ball.

Quenston High stayed being the safe haven for the rich and smart students. Not so much for the ordinary ones like myself. I managed to slip by with my grades, it isn't my fault the equations in Chemistry refused to stay in my brain.
