Flying has always been something humans have desired. Flying represented a freedom we have been unable to attain. We have tried to replicate this ability with machines like planes, but they don’t compare to the real thing.
This is my favorite part of virtual reality. There is a flight simulation available. I get to experience the joys of flying. With no plane, or any other mechanical assistant, I am free. In this simulation, I experience a sense of freedom I have yet to feel in any other part of my life. Fly as fast as superman, or as slow as a bird.
The clouds are well designed, and I can feel the moisture as I fly through them. There is a ground below me, but I can never get close to it. It is untouchable. It only changes with horizontal movement. The faster I fly, the faster the ground moves. It establishes a sense of speed.
The time of day changes rapidly, cycling from morning to night. My personal favorite is sunrise. It has been dark for thirty minutes, and there is a sudden burst of light. The beautiful colors spread through the clouds.
I fly slowly between the clouds. Going up and over, and dropping down on the other side. My stomach travels to my throat each time. I pick myself up on the underside of the next cloud, and I soar all over again.
The controls aren’t hard, I only have to think about flying forward to do it. Flying has become so easy I no longer have to focus, and everything else fades away. For me there is no better feeling in the world than flying. After a while I am forced to come down from those great heights, and back to my dreary little bedroom.
