Chapter 1

I walked down the cold and dark avenue on a late April day. I was so relieved that my job had finally finished. I worked at a diner, called 'Joe's Diner'. I hated that job, but Joe was always nice to me and gave me free food every Tuesday, Friday, and Sunday. I was always the waitress and took orders from different people. Although Joe's is a very popular diner, I only get 5 dollars an hour. Today I worked since 5:00 am to 11:00 pm, that's about 95$. It was a good job to earn money, but it was a lot of work to get that money. I was covered in pancake syrup and grease. I waved at a taxi to get a ride and paid him 10$ to get me to my apartment. "Can you take me to Silver Street, please?" I asked. "Sure that would be 10$" he replied. I gave him the money and he started to go to my apartment. I don't think I properly introduced myself, my name is Guadalupe Isabella Del Barrio, but I go by Lupita. I stared out the window and almost fell asleep when suddenly the driver surprised me," we are here". I replied to him,"Thank you, have a good night!". I walked up the stairs and walked to my apartment. I grabbed my keys and opened the door. I saw all the lights off and smelled cold pizza. I turned on the lights and saw Jose, my boyfriend, sleeping. "Jose,wake up" I whispered in his ear. "Yeah" he yawned. I smiled,"It's 11:04, come on, I have burgers!". He quickly rose up and laughed. We went to the table of 3 chairs and grabbed the free burgers Joe gave me. He was a great person. We dig in and ate the burgers with a single crumb left. We quickly changed. I put on my night gown and crawled to bed. I grabbed my phone to check if I had any messages. I saw a message from my mom
From: Mom Delivered: 4:37
'Hola sweetie! How are you? How's Jose and everyone you know? Are you pregnant yet? I have to go Lupita! Adios! Good bye!'
My mother wants me to have a baby so she can be a grandma. I though about it and I do want to get pregnant, but I will have to work a lot to raise my own child. Jose walked to the other side of the bed and jumped on. I smiled at him and he did ,too. "So, what shall we name out baby?" He asked. I laughed,"I'm not even pregnant!" I laughed. He smoothed his hand on my leg. "Maybe not yet" he smiled. I smiled back and yawned. "Stop your making me blush" I laughed. I turned off my lamp and so did Jose we tucked ourselves till we were in perfect position to sleep. Jose wrapped his arm around me and gave me a kiss on my cheek.
