A large, rounded table loomed over the rows of ascending seats in the auditorium, casting an imposing shadow over the chambre. On thrones behind the table sat twelve elves of highest authority. They were debating their response to the latest disaster: an attack on Foxfire, a kidnapping and a murder.
"We need to keep this incident under wraps, the less people who know, the better."
"The people have a right to know! They should be warned and cautioned, we can't just keep them in the dark."
"And the panic that ensues? There'll be riots. An elf died this time, all hell will break loose if they found out."
"What right do we have to keep it from them though? Lives are at risk!"
"We have the right to because we have the power to decide."
"I think we should come out with it."
"See, she agrees with me."
"Why."
"Better us than them. They might try to spin something out of it. And if they do, we'll be put under fire for keeping quiet."
"She's got a point."
"So we'll start drafting something up quickly then."
"Fine."
"On to other matters..."
The next day a world wide broadcast played on every elven news network.
A dull rain poured outside as Biana sat silently on a plush sofa as she watched Councillor Bronte walk to a podium, ever present grim expression on his face.
Good evening citizens, I, member of the Council, Bronte, am hear to share tragic news.
Yesterday, the Neverseen attacked Firefox academy, and killed one member of faculty.
Their intentions were unknown, but have caused irreparable damage because of them.
The faculty member in question was Dr. Elwin, head of the Medical Wing. He was a well respected and kind elf, a brilliant example of our capabilities as an intelligent species to be compassionate and empathetic.
His loss has come as a great shock to us all, and will be missed dearly.
Those responsible will be captured and held accountable. As of now the Neverseen and it's members are recognized as a Level Four terrorist organization.
These are the known members, please inform the authorities if you ever spot any of these individuals and do not approach them.
One by one images flashed by of different elves with various information about them presented beneath the photos.
Biana's eyes widened as a new face appeared on the screen.
A black haired elf with silvery blue eyes and bangs covering a portion of his face.
"Tam..."
A tear rolled down her cheek.
His horrified face flashed through her mind.
I'm sorry.
The pain and darkness clouding his eyes. His back turned to her as he ran, the black cloak fluttering.
Biana turned off the TV.
She replayed her last memory of him in her mind over and over again. Each time a weight growing in her heart.
She replayed his pained face and felt something else bubbling up from within, something hot and fiery. Anger.
Anger at those who would ever make him go through this. Anger at her own helplessness and anger at him. Anger that he left her.
Biana breathed in and out, calming herself.
She laid down on her side, tired and mentally drained.
The only thing she thought about was him.
Emotions rampaged about in her heart and her mind was a mess, but through it all she felt something so strong.
A sorrowful longing, reaching out to the person who she wanted most, but wasn't there.
"Goddamn it Tam, why did I have to fall for you," more tears came now.
She had loved him a long while now.
She had loved him so passionately, but oh so quietly.
If only she had told him sooner, because now she might not ever.
