Ruby's POV

^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^

I don't remember the last time I felt cool air on my skin. But now, as I was running from the facility I spent most of my life in, all my memories are coming back.

I've spent most of my life in H.Y.D.R.A., or as I like to call it, snake building. The doctors there experimented with me almost every day, whether it might be injecting me with unknown substances, making me train for hours on end, or leaving me in a padded white room with cameras. They barely gave me any food, and when they did most of it tasted like a toilet. (Don't ask me how I know).

I also have a collar-type thing on 24/7. I don't know exactly what it is, only that it shocks me when I try to use my powers. I don't think that's all it does, because I overheard the scientists saying it wasn't possible for me to be as powerful as I am with only the serum they gave me.

This got me thinking, if my powers didn't come from them, where did it come from. But I couldn't focus on that right now, I had gotten ahold of a bobby pin. Some careless nurse was bringing me back from the experimentation room and I swiped it from her hair.

I felt around the collar for some type of screw, and when I found it, stuck the end of the bobby pin in moving it around to try to unlock it. I only had about 6 minutes until they came to check in on me, that means I have approximately 3 minutes to unlock the collar, 2 minutes to disguise myself, and one minute to wait.

I've been planning this escape for years, and the bobby pin was the last thing I needed to complete my plan. I've timed and tracked the security times and where they go. I was even able to steal a uniform from a closet during my training.

As I finished thinking about this, the collar unlocked. This is my only chance, I have to get this right, I thought. I quickly got into the uniform and prepared for the arrival of the guards.

I listened at the door and sure enough, I heard the heavy footsteps of a guard. I hid behind the door, waiting to hear the click of the lock as the key was inserted. As the door opened, I saw the guard look around and his eyes widen in shock as he saw I wasn't there. In the split second when he was still, I ran out from behind the door and past him into the hallway.

"HEY! COME BACK HERE!" He yelled from behind me. I knew I couldn't look back or slow down, because he had a taser. I timed this perfectly so that my escape would be during the shift change, when the guards are changing posts, and there were no guards in the hallway that I was running in. Well, except for the guy behind me.

I saw the emergency staircase at the end of the hallway and ran at full speed so I could open the door in time. I got to it and flung open the heavy door, not looking back as I slammed it behind me. As I was speeding up the flights and flights of stairs, I heard the intercom beep and then a voice come on.

"Code Pink, a subject escape attempt, I repeat, code pink, subject escape attempt. We are now commencing lockdown. Guards, get to your posts quickly."

Well, so much for stealthy  I thought. I heard the stair doors bang open from the bottom, and I knew I had to use my powers to get out of here. I kept running, and as I did this, remembered how the doctors said to activate my speed. I held my breath and thought of my legs moving as quickly as I could, and when I looked down, they were.

I arrived at the top of the staircase and pushed through the doors. I was expecting an army of guards awaiting me, but there were only 5. Seeing them aim their guns at me, I decided the best course of action was to run right through them. Don't worry, I still had my speed. I zigzagged through the guards and towards the front doors.

I knew they would be locked, so for a split second I stopped, thought and eventually the doors flew open.

I ran, as fast as I could into the forest that was in front of me, hoping the trees would conceal me.

I don't remember the last time I felt cool air on my skin. But now, as I was running from the facility I spent most of my life in, all my memories are coming back.
