CHAPTER TWO

LOKI'S POV:

I blinked awake, yawning widely. I felt eyes on me, assuming it was Stark, and slowly turned to look at the owner of the gaze. I inhaled sharply when I saw the Black Widow glaring at me.

We sat there like that for a long time before she rose silently to her feet. She held the same grace and beauty as a cat might, and the same glint of danger in her eyes. She walked towards me, smirking as I shifted slightly away.

I watched as she reached up and turned off monitor after monitor. I felt panic fill me as I realized what she was doing. "Tony!" I shouted, struggling to sit up to reach for the monitor myself. A blade whipped to my throat as I was about to call out again, and my blood froze.

"What are you doing?" I whispered, careful not to let the blade cut me. Her burning glare meet with me as she explained.

"I'm finishing the job. Everyone else has forgiven you because you got hurt, but I hold grudges. And I'm not particularly fond of people who use Barton to their own wishes, and who try to destroy New York. I call this wiping red from my lecher." She purred, flicking off the last machine.

My lungs began to protest as she leaned in and whispered, "Who's the mewling quim now?"

Black spread rapidly across my vision and my chest burned as I desperately tried to call for Tony again. I registered a long bang and a few shouts as the Black Widow and the knife were yanked away from me and Stark's face appeared. I reached for him and I felt him take my hand as I passed out.

TONY'S POV:

Loki didn't wake up for three hours. I spent the whole time pacing and fiddling with the monitors until Bruce walked by and swatted me away. "Leave them be, he'll wake when he's ready." He had said, sending me a reassuring smile. That was an hour ago.

I was sitting in a chair beside Loki, tapping the beat of 'Shoot to Thrill' on the bed with my fingers and softly singing when his eyes fluttered open. I found myself staring into his emerald eyes, thinking, I thought his eyes were blue when we fought here.

"Hey Sleeping Beauty. Notice anything new?" I asked, ceasing my tapping. He frowned, glancing around. His eyes widen as he realized he was breathing without help. "How?!" He asked, sitting up. We both grinned as he did without a hitch.

"Your magic finally kicked in. You should be good as new now." I said, handing him a glass of water. He drank it greedily, spilling some and blushing. "It takes a lot of energy to do healing like that." He muttered, handing the glass back to me.

"Are you okay? Natasha is under house arrest on her floor, so you don't have to go near her." I said. Loki paled, his hands shaking slightly.

"I'll be fine. It's not the first time, nor do I believe it will be the last time something like this happened to me. In fact, if our roles were reversed I probably would have done the same." He said, looking down at his hands as I strained to here the muttered words.

"That doesn't make it okay." I said, resting my hand on his shaking shoulder. He looked up at me and I was startled to see tears running down his face, his emerald eyes made crystal clear by the moister.

"Tony, why are you helping me?" He choked out, resting his head against my shoulder. He was shaking with sobs, and I wrapped my arms around him. I felt awkward, not being used to comforting people. I shut them out, mostly because I couldn't handle it, and I would end up hurting them. Machines were a lot less complicated than humans.

It's too late to shut Loki out, he needs me right now. I realized. His hands were fisted in my shirt as I tried to comfort him, and failed miserably. "I help you because I want to. I know what it's like to go through things like you have, and I know that I wished to have had someone to help me like this. Sure, Pepper and Rhodey helped a little, but I couldn't talk to anyone about it. I guess what I'm trying to say is I'm here if you need to talk, because I understand." I told him, holding him closer.
