You never appreciate things until they are truly gone. I never realized it til just now. I've been thinking that my freedom has been gone since I was born into this world, but I was wrong. Now it is truly taken away. I am reminded of it every waking second, every step I dare to take. He won't let me forget.
Everywhere I go he is there by my side. He is forcing me to smile and clasp his hand in mine, to act happy. Inside I am rebelling and cursing him, but on the outside I become weak and submissive. I act the part of hit dotting fiance and convince the people closest to me that I love him. Corbin never speaks to me away from public and I pray that it'll stay that way.
My cheek has scabbed over and has lost the puffy look from before. One of the scratches is feared to scar and I apply extra ointment to help it heal better. I don't want to remember the memory of how I received it for the rest of my days. I spend most of my time in the shelter of my quarters reading and writing of what Corbin is really like. The people may not think he is a monster now, but if some reads this years in the future they might just dishonor him. Ethan visits when he can but it isn't as often as I'd like. Father came once to tell me of the neighbouring kingdoms. They still haven't found their missing nobles. I ask him for the books we have on the creatures and they are sent to my room the next evening. All of the information is useless and says nothing of real importance. The only thing really known of where the noble could be being held is the mountains to the east.
I sigh and lay back onto my bed, throwing the book somewhere next to me. Nothing is taking me from the dullness of the today. So I open the balcony doors and over look the city. Bitter air nips at my face and I smile at the day. Nothing could beat the view from my balcony. I sit on the railing letting my legs hand countless stories from the ground. Ethan hated it when I did this. He said that 'one day a gust of wind will blow through and knock me off my perch'. I would always tell him that he was a lunatic and punch his shoulder. I think to the future. My wedding is in only three days. I sigh. Another obstacle.
A thumping comes from inside and I panic when I remember that I hadn't locked my door today. From the sound of the knocks it's Corbin. The door flies open and he swaggers in. I manage to close my balcony doors before hand and disappear behind the wall.
"Darling? I know you're in here. Just want to talk."
His steps sound from the inside of the room and a shiver races down my back. He walks to the doors and opens them.
"There you are. I was searching everywhere for you," he extends a hand to help me to my feet but I stand on my own."
"I am sorry I was caught up in my books. I thought you a villain from one of those stories for a moment" I am getting better at pretending.
"Whatever the case is I want to speak to you about the wedding."
"Is something the matter?"
"I've talked to your parents about the wedding being moved to tomorrow. They are okay with it and want your consent," he grins victoriously at me.
I swallow a sob and respond, "That sounds wonderful dear."
"Then it shall be done."
He leaves me with that and I collapse onto the stone. Only a day left without being bound to him. I am doomed.
