"And apparently make lunch for them."Instead of training with the international teams, or even talking to them for that matter, The Malibu Junior Rescues of Tower Two found themselves serving lunch for said teams. Not exactly ideal.
"This is humiliating."
"I know right."
Then one of the patties Eric was flipping fell through the grill. "I got a man down over here."
"Pulling a burger out of the coals isn't exactly the kind of rescuing I thought ed be doing this summer," Gina grumbled. Kris nodded in agreement. We're lifeguards not lunch ladies... and men, she thought. 5 seconds into the summer and were already off on a bad start.
Kris tuned out of Roger's announcement. The last thing she wanted to do was exactly what she was doing. She looked over at Gina, whose face held the same annoyed expression. They shared a sigh before turning back to line of people waiting to be served.
"I can't believe we have to serve food while Brody gets to strut around like big, dumb... Brody," Tyler started. Kris rolled her eyes, knowing that he was about to go on a tangent.
"He's been apart of Team USA for the past 4 years which has won all those times. He might be an ass, but he's a great Junior Rescue," Kris pointed out.
"I don't know why those guys get to be Team USA. We saved the beach last year. Just cause they're from Malibu, they're automatically better than us? We could've been Team USA. Roger should've given us the chance to try out," Tyler ranted, ignoring everything Kris just said.
Kris noticed Brody approaching the table, meaning he'd heard Tyler. She rolled her eyes and muttered, "Oh brother, here it comes."
Brody cut Tyler off. "What's that Valley?! You think that you can be Team USA, huh? I got two words for that: cha, you wish. We're the dream team, man. We won this thing four years in a row. One more and we'll have the longest winning streak in Beachmaster history. The longest winning streak you've ever had was in your shorts."
Kris simply wanted to be anywhere else. She came into this summer with such high expectations, but here she was, lowering them every second.
"Hey, cutie." Kris snapped her head up to look at the girl in front of her. She was tall, raven haired, and judging by her accent and the green jacket on her arms, an Australian. She looked at her friends who seemed to be watching the encounter intently.
"Uh... hi," Kris stuttered as she felt her cheeks getting warm. As mentioned before, Kris + flirting = stuttering and blushing mess.
Gina eyed the Australian, getting a bad vibe from her. She felt jealousy boil in her stomach at Kris' reaction and response. Kris doesn't like her or think she's pretty, right? Gina asked herself. No, no. That's absurd. She probably is just awkward when it comes to meeting new people. But Gina knew that she was lying to herself. Kris was a social butterfly, she loved to make friends and never got nervous around new people. So why now? Why this girl? Gina wondered.
"I'm Sienna."
"Kris. Nice to meet you," she returned. "This is Tyler, Eric, Lizzie, and Gina." As she introduced her friends, she spent a few more seconds smiling at Gina, an action that didn't go unnoticed by the Aussie.
"Pleasure."
Friend. That was what Kris referred to Gina as, Sienna pondered. Then little by little, the pieces started to come together. Oh, this is going to be fun.
"So Kris, you excited for the competition?" Sienna asked.
Kris smiled at her, feeling more relaxed than before. "Yea, we're all pretty excited. A bit bummed, though, since we won't be able to participate."
