Chapter Sixteen- Penny's POV
2 years laterAlex and I had spent two years engaged, not rushing to get married at all and honestly just be with Addie. We didn't want a big wedding, neither of us are exactly social butterflies besides our close friends, our wedding didn't even hit one hundred people, but we preferred it that way.
Like I had said all those years back when I was pregnant with Addie, we had a twilight-themed wedding, like in the forest, it was beautiful. Addie and Alex's niece were our flower girls while his nephew was ring boy. The venue had provided a small reception area for us.
One of the other reasons why we didn't want a big wedding was because we were building a house in a new neighborhood. And that costed a shit ton.
"Mommy!" A voice exclaims, I turn away from Alex's grandma and smile as Addie comes running up to me. Her brown hair flying around her. I smile and pick her up, placing her on my hip.
Addie's first word was pickles, yes pickles. Alex and I couldn't hold in our laughter. It was no shock that those were her first words.
Mrs. Phillips excuses herself and I smile and nod, turning on my bare feet I look around for my husband and find him sitting at one of the guest tables talking to his unit chief and his wife.
Alex had gone out on a mission almost a month ago in Philadelphia and to make my nightmares come true he was stabbed during the mission and needed surgery. I had rushed up with Addie to be there when he had woken up and ever since he was taking it very easy, so he currently wasn't on the dance floor with the rest of the guests and his team.
I walk towards Alex, almost tripping on my dress, I had taken off my heels earlier and now the dress flowed even longer. Alex glances up and does a double-take, I guess not realizing it was me approaching him.
My husband smiles and stands slowly, I immediately gravitate towards his side. William and his wife, once again congratulate us before politely excusing themselves.
Addie wiggles in my arms and I lower her to the ground, watching her run away and indulge in some mischief with the rest of the kids present. I wrap both my arms around Alex as his one arm tightens around me.
"Hi, wife," he says and I look up at him with a smile.
"Hi, husband," I muse. He wasn't looking down at me but around us with a smile.
"Wanna step out?" He asks and I nod immediately. Again, Alex and I weren't really social butterflies. Sure Alex loved to talk to whomever but he did enjoy his privacy a lot. Alex was quick to sweep me away from the party and we begin to walk down the green hill.
He pulls my hand back and spins me around, holding onto my hip and the other slides into my hand, "have you ever danced under the moonlight?" He asks me as he begins to sway us.
"No," I chuckle, "I've danced in the rain," I tease tiling my head and he smiles. He slowly lifts me off the ground and onto his shoes. Yea we danced in the rain once, to James Bay's Us, the acoustic version, it was also our first dance song.
"I'm so very lucky to call you my wife," he mumbles nudging his forehead with mine.
"I'm so lucky to call you my husband," I smile letting go of his hand and wrapping my arms around his waist. His hands slide down to my butt, resting there, he spins us around and I smile.
"I wish I could just sweep you away and take you home but I won't be rude to our guests and for the sake of being romantic I'll hold my dick," he says and I laugh.
Our honeymoon wasn't exactly a honeymoon, we didn't want to go far just because of Addie but Stephanie, Alex's sister had immediately volunteered to take Addie in for the weekend. All I knew was Alex was taking me to our new home, it was fully built and for the most part, finished but completely empty and we all know he loves to christen things the right way.
