Olivia's POV

"...and there is only one more slot left. Who will continue on to the finals? Who will be sent home? Stay tuned and we'll tell you...right after the break," the anouncer said dramaticly.

The cameras all turn off and so does my confident smile. I'm terrified. Ten years of dreaming about this day and now I was on the verge of a record contract. Who wouldn't be scared?

"You all right kid?"My mentor asks.

"I just can't believe it. I'm so close, but so far away."

"You'll make it"

I turn around and look at Simon Cowell.

"How do you know?" I ask.

"I don't" Simon admitted "but I think you will, and so should you. Besides, you still want to meet the boys, don't you? Think about that, get your mind off this bloody competition."

I would have pointed out that he was the one who owns this "bloody competition", but there is NO point an arguing with Simon. And I did want to meet the boys. "The boys", as Simon calls them, refers to One Direction. Early on in the competition Simon found out I was an avid fan.  He teased me relentlessly about it, saying that if I won he would introduce me to them.

"OK, I'm going to go rest for a bit, get ready for the next segment." I get up and head to the contestant rest room, which tends to be empty now that there are only four contestants, plus two of them are already out calling their families, telling them that they are through to the finals. Oh, how I wanted to be in their place.

After a moment to breathe and calm my nerves they called me on stage. This was the moment of truth.

Scared might have been the understatement of the century.

The announcer comes back on, "And we're back at x factor semi-finals, where we're about to find out who is advancing to the finals, Olivia Smith, or Jake Hargreaves." I think it's ironic how he, the one who gives us contestants all the bad news, is the one who sounds absolutely thrilled, no matter what he's saying.

"And the act going through to the finals, and getting a chance at a five million dollar recording contract is......" Spit it out I think.

"...Jake Hargreaves!"

Harry's POV

We were in the middle of a nerf battle when Simon walked in. He didn't look happy and we all knew that meant we needed to chill IMMEDIATELY. Instantly Liam called a ceasefire and we were ready to listen.

"Boys, you are all aware of Olivia Smith's predicament?" Simon asks.

"She's your x-factor favorite this year, right?"Louis says.

"Yes, but she's also in the same position you guys were in when you were eliminated, and they just counted the votes, and she got voted off, same as you" Simon tells us.

That sobers us up. We all remember the pain we felt when we were voted off.

"Not to be rude, we all feel sorry for her, but why are you telling us this?" Liam asks.

"She's a big fan of yours" Simon tells us, as if that was supposed to clear it up.

"And..." I prompt

"When you guys perform at the finals, I want you to sing with her, bring her back for a song." He paused, looked at me, and got that look he gets when he gets what he thinks is a good idea. Sometimes it's a good thing, and sometimes it isn't.

"Harry," he continued "I want you to ask her personally if she'll sing with you guys."

Nope, not a good thing. I've never been great at the whole professional talking thing.  Put me in front of a girl and ask me to chat her up and I'm fine, but for some reason when it comes to propositions and stuff like that my language skills go out the window. "Why do I have to do it? Have Management call her or something."

"She seems to have a soft spot for you, I want this whole experience to be the best it possibly can be, and I told you to. Three legitimate reasons that you will go and ask her. She just got her dreams crushed, have a heart, Harry."

Louis snorted at this comment, and we all caught the irony.

He continued on as if he hadn't heard Louis.

"I don't want her to see you until you ask her though. Harry, you hear me? She needs to be taken completely by surprise."

"Why do doubt me?" I said in mock surprise.

"I wonder." He said under his breath.
