New neighbours

A/N: some dates don't match, so I'm messing with it. I've already said this before but just a reminder.

Esme was in the living room when she heard cars arriving. It was their new neighbours. She was happy for the fact that they were going to be a good change for them. It was also time for their 'supplies shopping' to keep the pretext of being human. "Edward dear, please come and accompany me to the market." Esme said and Edward agreed. So she set out from the house along with him. She just wanted to spend some time with her son.

Edward was okay. In a way of speaking, he was simply bored. So when Esme asked him th accompany her to the supermarket for shopping he simply agreed. The little thrill he got was when he went hunting or when he was driving dangerously fast, well dangerous for humans but he was a vampire. With him driving his Volvo S60R, they quickly reached their destination.

Similarly for their new neighbours, Lyra planned on heading out to buy groceries. She went out alone, duly informing Hermione and and her papa. She took Hermione's Audi RS7 as it had bigger space and was less 'eye catching' then the other cars. The Range Rover was too big and her car was too stylish. It wasn't so stylish for her but she didn't want rumors building up on the first day.

Being the best beater that Hogwarts has ever seen in history, she immediately loved speed. It was this thrill for her that made her so good in Quiddich. She was brilliant and she knew it. Hence, she didn't drive the car in a sensible speed. She zoomed off, careful yet fast and gracefully made her way to the supermarket.

By the time Lyra reached the store, the Cullens were in the middle of their shopping. Lyra promptly entered the store, grabbed a basket and soon started filling out with whatever she needed. She had already received so many stares from the people making them look like they've never seen a girl in their lives before. Heading to the fruits and vegetable section, she picked an array of vegetables and fruits like cabbage, spinach, tomatoes, chilli, apples, peas, potatoes, berries, etc.

It was a cliché moment where Lyra's hand went for the lemon and so did Edward's. Their hands touched and they looked at each other in the eye but it was not love at first sight. Lyra didn't even flinch at the cold temperature of the skin. She merely looked at him with a bored look, grabbed the lemons and moved on.

Edward was shocked when he made contact with a human but this said human was so beautiful and the fact that she didn't flinch at his cold temperature piqued his interest. She was definitely human but she was more beautiful than most of the vampires he had seen and that was saying something. And her scent was so alluring to him too. It gave him a sense of peace and calmness washed over him.

THIS was a moment of confusion for Edward as he realised that he could not read her mind. So he tried harder but it was like he was cut off from her brain. This truly intrigued him.

Edward's POV~

Unlike Bella's mind, I could feel her mind. Bella's mind was just empty, I couldn't hear anything but this girl's mind is like a shield. I can feel her thoughts but they are out of my grasp.

"Edward are you alright?" Esme called out to her son. She saw the look of surprise and confusion screwing his face into a grimace.

"Yes I'm fine." he replied snapping out of the trance like state he was in. The both of them saw the girl properly and Edward suddenly realised that she was the girl from Alice's vision.

He conveyed the message to Esme and his mother took a good look at her. Alice didn't do the justice describing the girl. She was beautiful even more so in real life. She was gorgeous and regal, something that they didn't see much often and much to Edward's confusion Esme walked towards the girl.

"Hello dear. Are you new here?" Esme asked in a motherly tone.

Lyra was about to snap back with a snarky comment as she felt the mind intrusion but promptly stopped herself as she was here for a change. She spent way too much time with Severus that she adopted some of his habits like his sharp tongue, snarky comments and the scowl. It wasn't her fault that he was brilliant.

Taking a calm breath Lyra looked at her and said "That obvious huh."

"I'm Esme. Esme Cullen. Nice to meet you and this is my son Edward." Esme said and placed her right hand out for shaking after pointing out to Edward who was standing behind her with a scowl.

"You are Mrs Cullen? Well my name is Lyra. Lyra Black. Its a pleasure to meet you. You definitely crossed my expectations with the house. I've been meaning to thank you. Thank you so much." She said in a friendly tone as she shook her hand.

Lyra's brain was going on overdrive. The two people in front of her were too cold and too perfect and their eyes were gold in colour. And her magic was in a defensive mode which didn't do anything to calm her down. She suddenly remembered a DADA book specialising in Vampires '...... gold eyes of vampires indicates that they are animal feeders. They are more volatile then the average vampire as they do not consume human blood......'

It suddenly clicked but she did nothing hostile towards them. They were civil and they didn't bother her so she didn't have anything against them.

"I see, you were the Ms Lyra I was conversing with. Its a pleasure to finally meet you." Esme stated with a sweet smile.

"It was a pleasure to meet you too. I've got to get going. Plenty of things to shop today. It was nice meeting you Mrs Cullen, Edward. Hope to see you again soon. Have a nice day. " Lyra replied with a smile, the habit ingrained into her since her childhood.

"I hope so too dear." Esme said as she stood there smiling while Edward looked at her retreating back. "What a sweetheart." Esme said and headed for the counter.

By now Edward was confused and utterly shocked. He did not have the urge to suck her dry and it made him realise that his monster was under control. He wasn't sure whether to be glad that he found peace or to be terrified that the girl Lyra managed to calm him down.

He was surely keeping a watch on the young girl. She was definitely more intriguing then she led on.
