chapter 1

no matter how many morning practices i had to go to they still felt unbearably early. I was on the verge of falling asleep when i felt my head star to slowly sink uncomfortable low.
"hm?" i picked my head up half asleep to see tendou cringe caught mid reach from his phone which was across the table.
"sorry-" he laughed at my sleepy expression.
I gave him a look before just putting my head down on the table and closing my eyes again.
practice finished only about half an hour before our first classes so my only option was to sleep in the library before having to go to class. most of the boys volleyball team went to breakfast but tendou elected to come with me every morning knowing that i wasn't much of a breakfast person...

"did she fall asleep again?" i heard a familiar voice ask.
"was" Tendou said simply. I sat up giving up on my sleep at this point.
"Goshiki you should get breakfast what are you doing" i said tiredly, i found myself caring about Goshiki like a little brother since he started coming to shiratorizawa and played on the team.
"breakfast was all bad today, but i ate an orange so i did eat" he said simply tossing tendou an apple. the exchange looked to be a normal thing which made me question of tendou skipped breakfast simply so i wouldn't be left alone.
"y/n-chan if i ask you a question will you promise not to beat me up" Goshiki said pulling a chair up and sitting down at our table.
"that depends" i raised an eyebrow at him.
"did you sleep yesterday" he asked his expression a little more worried than before.
"of course i did, morning practice is just so early that's all" i lied. i hadn't sleep in like 3 days, not because i didn't want to... but because i simply couldn't bring myself to... or at least not while i was alone in my dorm.
I could feel tendou looking at me as if he wanted to call me out on my bullshit, he wasn't just good at guessing where to block... he was also painfully good at knowing how other people actually felt. Goshiki didn't say anything and instead elected to change the topic of conversation.
"we leave for training camp tomorrow right? what time do we have to be on the bus" He asked.
"yes" i yawned.
"4am" tendou laughed, the place was like 8 hours away and coach washijo insisted we be there before 12.
"might as well not sleep tonight" I rolled my eyes. it was a friday so luckily we were off school for the next couple days but still.
"how does one even function that early" goshiki mumbled. Tendou went through his backpack for a second before taking out a monster and sliding it across the table.
"what is it... it looks scary" Goshiki grabbed it inspecting the can of pure amazing energy.
"in the words of Wakatoshi- that right there is battery acid" Tendou said in us his signature serious tone.
"USHIWAKA DRANK THIS" Goshiki said shocked. Tendou nodded and i laughed remember Ushijimas reaction to taking a sip of it.
"Tendou... are you sure this is a legal substance" I quoted
"i do not like it, i will simply run to wake myself up" Tendou laughed resisting a very confused ushiwaka.

Goshiki went to open the can when i stopped him
"no! wait until tomorrow" i said taking the can back and cracking it open. Goshiki nodded slightly afraid of what could possibly happen after drinking this strange drink. I took a long refreshing drink before putting it back on the table. I handed the drink back to Tendou who took a couple sips before giving it back.

the school bells went off and people got up starting to get to their class.
"i'll see you later at practice" Goshiki said quickly running off to get to class, first years were always so afraid to be late it was funny to think i used to be that way.
