Hannah was thin. Her lifeless eyes stared at me harshly, as I began to notice the black and blue bruising covering her entire body. She came at me, her eyes flashing red. She grabbed my neck and squeezed until her nails pierced my flesh. I fell to the ground from lack of oxygen. She hungrily licked at the blood trickling down my neck. Just before my eyes closed, Chris joined her.
I shot up in bed, breathing heavily. Looking around the room, I noticed that I was moved from Chris’s room to my own sometime during the night. It took be a while to relax from the nightmare, but when I did; I decided I needed to see Hannah today to make sure she wasn’t really a vampire.
“Lily, are you awake?” said Chris, as he knocked on my door.
“Yeah, but I need to get dressed. Hey, do you think we could visit my friend today?”
“I think so. I’ll make arrangements.” After that, I heard him retreat from the door and I was left to pick out something not tattered or dirty. I finally managed to find the newest shirt I owned. I had stolen it from my sister two years ago and it only had minor tears. I threw on the only pair of jeans I owned and walked to the kitchen.
When he saw me, his face contorted in confusion and another emotion I couldn’t place.
“Why are you wearing that?”
“It’s the newest shirt I own.”
“It’s also very revealing. You should go change.”
“But I don’t have much else.” I pleaded with him to not make me embarrass myself further with how little I had.
“Go change, Lily! That outfit is not appropriate.” Jamie entered the room as he was yelling at me.
“I got it, Chris. I’ll give her something more respectable,” she reasoned. “Don’t blow a blood vessel.” She grabbed my arm and laughed, instantly lightening up the mood.
“He’s old-fashioned. That, and he thinks of you really protectively. He wouldn’t want you in something so skimpy.”
“Oh, okay. But I really don’t own a lot of clothes. This is the nicest thing I own.” Jamie gasped at me.
“Then, hon, you seriously need to go shopping. I’ll set up a day for just the two of us.”
She was all smiles. I didn’t understand how she made everything better, but she just had a way with people that I envied.
I stepped out of her room half-an-hour later looking clean and polished. It was so much better than what heavy makeup and jewelry my sister and mom wore. I didn’t know people from my family could look anything but cheap and used.
Jamie had put me in a floral sundress that was a little big, but the length was perfect. She let me borrow some white sandals and did my hair and makeup so delicately and seamlessly. My hair was in perfect ringlets that weren’t greasy at all and my makeup actually accentuated my brown eyes and average lips into something that could be considered beautiful.
When I walked into the kitchen with Jamie, Chris’s eyes lit up and he genuinely smiled. Jamie stood back as Chris held out his arm for me to take and whispered, “You look really nice.”
We drove in a comfortable silence to Hannah’s house. The GPS was the only thing interrupting the silence with instructions on how to get to Hannah’s house. Sometime during the ride his hand found mine. My skin tingled as he drew tiny circles on the back of my wrist. As the sunlight poured in through the windows, my eyes became heavier and heavier. My body was completely relaxed and my mind was at peace knowing that I was safe and I would see Hannah soon. Everything was being dealt with.
When we finally stopped, Chris released my hand and trees covered up the sun. My skin longed for his touch more than the light and warmth. He opened his door and I reluctantly opened mine.
“Lily, could you please not tell Hannah my secret?” His green eyes met mine.
“Oh, sure. I mean it’s not really my secret to tell, so yeah, sure.” A little embarrassed, I looked away.
Chris walked ahead of me to ring the doorbell. I had forgotten how horrible this place looked. The yard was overgrown, the house had moss and vines covering it as well as being filthy, and the roof was partially caved in.
Chris looked back at me, concerned, “It’s open.” My eyes widened in fear for my friend.
“Her dad always keeps the door locked. He’s really paranoid.”
“Stay back, Lily. I don’t want you to get hurt.” Chris ventured into the house alone, but I couldn’t just stand back and wait. I followed him inside after a few seconds, hoping my best friend was okay.
I went straight to her bedroom and froze. There was blood splattered everywhere. It covered every inch of her walls and slowly dripped down to the now red carpet. Hannah’s dad’s head sat impaled on a bedpost and the rest of his body was spread across the room. His eyes were wide open, staring at me even though they had no life in them. I fell to the ground sobbing out of pure terror.
I heard the closet door open as Hannah, covered in blood and looking incredibly dangerous stepped out. She turned her head sharply to look at me. No recognition flashed in her eyes, only hunger. She came closer and I screamed as loud as I possibly could.

I know, I know. I'm bad. I'm sorry. I apoligize, throughly. But there is this boy. I like him more than I've liked anyone ever before, but he doesn't like me. He likes my best friend. He trusts me and I trust him, but he doesn't think of me like that, he doesn't want to hurt me, and he doesn't want things to change between us. We're really good friends and all, which is good because that means we can talk really truthfully to each other. Last night he told me, I'm the only person he's trusted in a really long time. If you knew him and how much of a loner he is, you would get it more. But anyways, my life's a mess.
So I'm sorry, really sorry, but jbdbwfheb happened and I just haven't been able to write with a clear head.
