Dead bodies lay sprawled out in front of me. The room smells of the metallic blood and my nose cringes to the horrific stench. Right as I'm about to take a small step into the room full of death and dreary, a hand grips onto my shoulder and pulls me back. Jamie stands in front of me and glares at me before slamming the door shut.

"Don't you know better than to pry into other people's business?" she asks, pointing an accusatory finger at me. "That means that you absolutely do NOT wander off on your own and make a little adventure out of it! Got it?" She glares at me, but underneath her hardened eyes, I see worry and pity.

Staring dumbfounded at what seemed like the outgoing, get-along-with-everyone girl that I had recently met, I nod my head with wide eyes.

"S-sorry," I manage to squeak out.

Immediately, her face softens and I see the guilt in her eyes. She pinches the bridge of her nose and squeezes her eyes shut. "Look, I'm sorry. I didn't mean to burst out like that," she apologizes and starts walking away, motioning with her hand for me to follow.

"It's okay," I say in a quiet voice, afraid that if I say anything else, she would chop my head off.

"I guess you could call me bipolar," Jamie admits and then smiles at me. I smile back and we both softly laugh.

While walking down a hallway with Jamie, I see Chris hastily speed walking towards us, regret and guilt plastered onto his face. I can see the worry in his eyes as he frowns and finally stops in front of Jamie and I.

"Can I talk to you for a moment, Lily?" Chris pleads and waits for my approval. I keep my head low and make sure not to make eye contact with him.

I finally give my nod of approval and Jamie gives my arm a small, reassuring squeeze before walking past Chris and I.

I glance up at Chris and he opens his mouth as if to say something, but quickly closes it. He takes my petite hand in his strong, safe hand and leads me down into a room, which I'm guessing is his. He lets go of my hand and trails off to his bed. Chris pats the spot next to him and I hesitantly obey his command.

"Lily, I am really sorry about what happened earlier." I nodded my head and he continued, "I hadn't eaten anything and I was feeling light headed. When I don't feed, I change somewhat. It's like a whole different person. As you can already tell, the attitude is arrogant, cocky, and rude. Please forgive me?"

I guess I understand what he's getting at. I know that when my mother had started abusing me, she didn't give me much food, which for a couple of weeks I had a bad attitude and I complained a lot. I finally look up at him and ask, "It's okay, but what was that red liquid Haleigh gave you?" I was pretty sure it was blood (because of the metallic, gross smell), but I'd sound crazy if I asked that.

"Actually, I think it's time that you know something about my family and I..." Chris trails off, leaving me curious until I ask what his secret was (if it was a secret).

"I promise I won't tell if it's a family secret or something," I state and hold up my hands, as if I was already accused of telling secrets. Chris smiles at me, but his oh-so-gorgeous smile quickly faded away and he finally spilled his “secret”.

"My family and I.... are vampires."

And that's when I burst out laughing.
