Clay's POV

Clay smiled faintly. He didn't really miss Wilbur. He always got a little too personal for Clay.

Wilbur gestured to the seat in front of his desk and Clay sat down. Patches jumped on his lap and he stroked her back. Wilbur glanced at Patches briefly before looking back at Clay.

"You made quite a few people angry when you left your position unannounced," Wilbur said grimly.

"Are they still upset?! It's been two years," Clay said, slightly surprised. He didn't really consider what other people were thinking when he left.

"No, but be forewarned, you may receive a few angry glares."

Clay shrugged his shoulders nonchalantly. He didn't care how people regarded him. He was just here to finish his job in the Royal Guard.

"I'm glad you came. I was concerned we were going to have to send a few guards to escort you here," Wilbur said.

"I'm not stupid, Wilbur. I'm just here to do my job."

"Whatever you say, Dream. Speaking of your job... you have been assigned to be Prince George's personal guard."

Clay frowned slightly. "So you said in your letter. Can I continue my position as commander instead?"

"I'm afraid not. We have ample commanders, but we need someone with your specific skill set." Wilbur grinned.

"I don't know what you're talking about," Clay replied evenly. He knew exactly what Wilbur was talking about, he just wanted to see what Wilbur would say.

"Your files say that during the two years you worked as commander with Sapnap you took other training. Training that included undercover work, assassin training, parkour, and..." Wilbur trailed off.

Clay raised his eyebrow waiting for him to continue.

"... and the art of seduction, a class required for undercover operations." Wilbur smirked.

Clay nodded. "That's all true. I don't see how those pertain to me not being a commander."

"We need your expertise in those fields to be a member of Prince George's guard. We have strong suspicion that the Prince's life is under threat and he needs a new guard."

Clay frowned. "Threats from where?"

"That I can't disclose to you, but your skillset is needed to protect Prince George. Since he is the heir to the throne, his life must be protected at all costs."

"Will all my training be required?" Clay asked. He wondered why Wilbur brought up his seduction training.

Wilbur chuckled and leaned forward. "No. Your... more specific training is to be used on others that may potentially harm the Prince and to distract them... and kill them if need be."

Clay's frown deepened. "Is that all? Do I need to see anyone else before I start?"

"Yes. You need new clothes obviously as well as armor. You will be escorted to your room and receive a refresher course on what you know."

Clay nodded and got up to leave.

Wilbur caught his hand. "Let me know if you have any questions or if there's anything I can do for you."

Clay grimaced slightly and pulled his hand out of Wilbur's grasp, muttering, "Sure thing."

He left quickly and closed the door behind him. Clay shook off the previous scene and left to visit the armory.
