warnings: divorce

The night was cold and rainy. PP sat with his arm draped around BK, staring into the fire in calm silence. After a couple of minutes,

the doorbell broke the peaceful quiet that had enveloped the couple. Carter ran to the door, barking loudly. BK stood up quickly, hurrying to the door exclaiming that it must be God. PP stood up and followed, confused. He hadn’t been expecting God to come here tonight. BK had already opened the door, welcoming God into their home.

PP couldn’t help but notice that God had bags with him and looked tired. PP was aware of God’s pending divorce but could now see the full effects of it on his drooping face.

“What are you doing here God?” PP inquired. BK turned and smiled softly.

“The divorce went through, God needs a place to stay. I offered for him to stay here.”

PP glanced back and forth between BK and God. He had not been told about this, and it annoyed him. But he knew that BK only wished the best, so he reached forward to shake God’s hand. A show of welcome.

Together they helped God carry in his stuff and unpack into a guest room. He gazed at BK, guessing that he had invited God here without telling in fear that PP would say no. PP had imagined this in hope that it would make him feel better about being excluded from the planning of this event, but it only made anger bubble up more. BK shouldn’t have been worried at all about PP saying no. God was his best friend.

PP knew that he shouldn’t be as angry as he was. Even if he hadn’t been told, God was his best friend after all, and BK was his husband. But the anger still chewed away at him. When they finished moving God into the guest room, PP went to sleep. He didn’t feel like dealing with his feelings that night, and he needed rest.
