The following day left no space for thoughts, not as it was the last leader meeting before the trials. To discuss the rules of the trials and for whoever was partaking in these trials to put forward their suggestion of who to be leader in their place.
Yet now they sat discussing the mysterious disappearances of the recruits. She had suspected something was up from how the others acted, all of them all too quiet, as if awaiting a worser truth or reality.
The captain started the tension filled meeting by informing them they had indeed found the missing recruits, although they had been... dead. Most of them are killed in the most gruesome ways. She had her usual collected posture but something in her eyes showed her panic.
Across from Star stood the one person she had hated more than even the regals, Kieran Arden, one of the most cunning people she had ever known. She had seen enough to support her hatred of him, and to be weary enough to not trust a word he said.
"Maybe one of the escapees from the western isles got to them, or even a beast in the woods' 'He retorted nonchalantly when asked about the missing, now dead, people. The missing people of whom his troop had been sent to recruit. Whose bodies were found just outside the camp barriers, and were dumped in a pool of their own blood.
"You can't be serious, no beast who prowls these woods could ever do that amount of damage"
"Perhaps but the king's assassin was spotted in the Jackdaw Village, I mean you had a firsthand meeting with them did you not?" he inquired with a furrowed brow. If one didn't know they would probably think he truly was concerned, but Star knew better than to believe the little act he was putting on.
How did he even know that... she pondered, she only told one other person.
"Star? that?" " Asked the captain as all eyes turned to her, she mumbled some choice words under her breath before turning to face the other whose attention was now focused on her, on her slip up.
"I know, I should have mentioned it ..." but well I was a little preoccupied she thought but wisely choose not to.
"You know that if anyone from the castle sees you or anyone from the camp it is a very serious thing, that to the king's assassin and you didn't bother to tell anyone?"
"Well technically they didn't see me, because it was pitch black" she argued back. She wasn't foolish enough to risk being caught that easily.
The captain sighed before continuing to go over their plan and how they would need to improve security around the camp. As usual the meeting continued until later afternoon when the dusk had already started to settle. After doing her rounds checking on the newer recruits seeing if they needed anything and then she went to the treehouse.
Her troop and her had built it a few years earlier, excited for the summer season. Especially after hearing the campfire tale of the five friends. It had taken them the whole season and many hours till dusk but it had been worth it. Seeing as now it was their usual hangout, a place for just them.
"Hey guys," She greeted entering the treehouse. Seeing Dahlia, and Kayela who were busy talking about the latest camp gossip, the new it couples and all, a lot of times Star would join them. Seeing as being one of the few camp spies they often had quite the stories to tell. Mylo was carrying an injured creature, probably one he helped look after working at the sick bay. While Varian listens in to Kay, and Lia's stories, polishing his arrows.
"Sup Star, how did the meeting go?" Mylo greeted me.
She let out a deep breath slumping on the chair before saying, "Horrible, you know the missing people, yes they were found"
