Emmy lay in the tall flower-filled field just outside her family's cottage. It was a serene type of calm. Taking a deep breathe, she could almost taste the salt from the seaside, residing on the other side of the family home.
In a few hours' time she would be on the busy and crowded train on her way back to Hogwarts. Emmy decided to spend her morning hours on the beautiful cottage grounds, opposed to writing like usual. She wanted to soak up the time at home before she had to leave. Be weary to not confuse her apprehension of leaving with disliking the school, that's not what's happening. Emmaline has always loved Hogwarts, being a fifth year Ravenclaw with her brother, she just loved home a lot too.
Sighing, she moved into a sitting position, brushing off her jeans and fixing her dark green coat. Emmy could see her mother puttering around the kitchen, her blonde hair pulled into a messy bun on the top of her head and paint still on her face. -Emmy had a light brown color for her hair, while her brother had brown. She assumed they got those, and their brown eyes from their father- This was common with her mom, constantly with paint covered hands and stained clothes. Her mom was an artist, and I guess to an extent her and her brother were as well, Emmy being an exceptionally creative writer and Elio being a violinist.
A content smile graced her features as she listened to the soft music that could almost always be heard when Elio was home. She loved her family and her life more than anything and would do everything to protect them. They were all she had. Her dad was an unknown for her, him having never known that June, her mother, was pregnant. June was planning on telling him when they ended their fight in the first wizarding war, but they were separated. June was told by her sister Astrid that he had died fighting.
The three of them were close, Elio, June, and Emmy. June liked to keep the story of her true love alive by telling her children stories, but never a name. She didn't want their dad to be a mystery, but instead a story. A story of the great man he was. She even named her first daughter the name he had picked out. Emmaline, Emmy for short, as the nickname sounded like his own. Elio had come as a surprise, being Emmaline's twin. Once she gave birth, she moved out of her parent's home, being twenty, and moved to the cottage of her and her lost lover's dreams. It was almost perfect.
"Emmy dear! You'll need to eat before we leave!" Her mothers melodic voice was calling from the kitchen. She reluctantly stood, giving her clothes a final pat as to remove the stray flowers and dirt. She ventured up the path and into the back door leading into the kitchen. Her mom was leaning over the stove, flipping pancakes. When Emmaline walked in, her mother turned. Emmy could see the red and yellow paint on her left cheek, the black charcoal smudged on her nose and hands. "Could you fetch your brother please?"
Emmy nodded and smiled slightly. Unlacing her worn in dark brown boots and sliding them off. Her bright mismatched socks matching her personality well. One being bright yellow, the other white with pink suns and flowers patterned across them. She made her way down the hall to knock on Elio's door, and could hear the music stop. "Elly, mum made us pancakes. We've got to leave soon!"
The door opened to reveal a tired looking Elio.
"Alright, c'mon,"
The family all sat down together, smiling, and laughing as they passed plates of fluffy pancakes, fresh fruit from their garden, and homemade custard Emmy liked to make. They were happy, even if they were missing a piece of their puzzle.
