Emmy made her way through the train quietly, holding her notebook close to her chest. When she reached her usual compartment, she noticed it wasn't empty this year. A kind looking man with light brown hair and a scarred face sat reading a book. She saw his shabby robes and instantly loved his coat, making a note to ask him where he got it.
See the thing with Emmaline isn't that she is too awkward, or can't have a conversation, it's that she never wants to. She enjoys the peace and quiet of her thoughts, only needing her own company and a good book or some spare parchment.
"Pardon me sir, but would you mind me sitting in the compartment with you? Most are full and I have a dreadfully alarming number of ideas I would like to get down on paper without fellow classmates distracting me." She had softly knocked on the half open door and spoke in sweet tone. The man looked up from his book, his eyes searching her for a moment. He smiled and set his book down on the bench beside him.
"Why of course you can, my name is Professor R.J. Lupin" He extended a hand as she stepped in and took a seat directly across from him. She took his extended hand, hers being much smaller. She noticed his were very soft, his grip gentle. She knew that his scars were not reflective of the man himself.
"Professor? Oh my! You must be the new DADA teacher!" Her face lit up with excitement. "Pardon me if I'm wrong, but I'm not, am I?" He chuckled a bit at the young girl.
"No, you're not wrong at all. I'm terribly sorry if I stole your quiet compartment. I myself find that the quiet is nice. Helps you get your thoughts in order." Her smile grew a little bit wider when she heard him say this.
"No of course I don't mind, I do agree that being alone can be much more enjoyable. My mum always says 'Building connections can lead to friendships. Friendships can lead to finding those we love the most. And love gives us something to live for.' I understand the sentiment, and it's sweet, but I think that being alone is alright sometimes too! You've got to have balance." His eyes widened a little bit before his friendly smile took over his features. She talked with her hands a lot, something he noticed she did accidentally.
"I think your mother must be a wise woman. I never caught your name, miss...?" He was urging her to say something. One name. He knew he was being irrational.
"Oh! Pardon me, I should have led with that. My name is Emmaline, Emmaline Saorise Finn," His expression faltered before going neutral again. She noticed but decided to brush it off. "You could call me Emmy if you like, most people do. My mum does because she said it's similar to my dad's nickname. Oh my, I've probably talked your ear off! I guess I'm not used to having people to converse with that aren't going a mile a minute..." She smiled sheepishly, folding her hands in her lap, and moving to sit sideways. She leaned against the train window and sat on one leg, the other stretched in front of her.
"I don't mind at all Emmy. I see you're itching to get back to your writing," He laughed slightly at her embarrassed expression. "That is quite alright, you can do that don't worry. I'll be reading my novel." They both smiled. Going back to their prospective work.
Not too much later Emmaline was deep in concentration, writing down as much as she could, as Lupin slept peacefully across from her. She was just finishing her sentence when the door opened and an averagely tall red head walked in, accompanied with a raven-haired boy and exceptionally pretty brunette. She looked up slightly, sighing before putting her parchment away.
"H-hi, there isn't really any other compartments right now.." The raven-haired boy started, shifting from one foot to the other, awkwardly scratching the back of his neck. "Do you think we could maybe stay here with you two?"
"Of course, you can," She spoke softly, sitting up from her previously slouched position. "I'm Emmaline but call me Emmy. You three are...?" The girl spoke first.
