The doorbell rang again after I specifically told the person at the front door to wait two minutes. Why is everyone so on edge lately? Either it's traffic lights, supermaket queues or front doors, people just can't seem to wait in this town.
I put some shorts and a t-shirt on before leaving my room with my hair still wet from the shower. I open the front door and the pizza delivery girl gives me an awkward look and lets out a sigh. I throw a fake smile over my face and pay the shockingly overpriced margarita pizza, wishing I had accepted the invitation to go out and have dinner with my parents instead of staying in and spending this ridiculous amount of money on the simplest pizza on Earth. This better be delicious.
Both my parents are architects and partners alongside their college friend Thomas Smith in their company called A&S Skylines in Florida. The company opened an office in New York and my parents decided that a change would be good for us, so we moved here. Transfering from UF to NYU during the second semester of my 3rd year was not easy, I left my best friend Brooklyn behind and I am going to miss her every damn second of my days.
Life in New York couldn't be further from what I imagined. I mean, it's lovely here, apart from the constant traffic, noise and polution; the sidewalks are always full of people stomping into eachother and it's literally impossible to drive your own car to work or school unless you wake up at 4 in the morning to find a parking spot. Other than that, it's a great city. At least now I can pretend I'm a character from Gossip Girl and have lunch at The Met steps.
Before I notice, it's 11:00pm and my pizza is gone. It was a pretty good pizza after all. I throw the cardboard box in the trash and debate whether or not I should watch another episode of Victoria. After much thought, I decide it's better for me to just brush my teeth and go to sleep, as I remember that tomorrow is my first day of school in the middle of the semester and I'll have to endure it without Brooklyn. All of a sudden I'm 6 years old again and I feel like vomiting from the anxiety of my first day.
Tomorrow better be good.
