'Thanks.' I said to Matt. Neil just ignored us and started for the pack. His attempt was foiled so he'd go on like he hadn't been trying to fuck me.

'Does he do that often?' Matt asked. Falling into step with me.

'Only once in a while.'

'Because you are a white?'

'What can I say I'm a catch.' The three of us were quiet as we caught up and continued to run with the pack. When we were back in the clearing, we had parked at we all shifted back. While most wore old clothes for this, I had worn my jeans and a t-shirt. I liked to be covered when Neil was around. As we said goodbye, I looked around for Matt going to thank him again. He was across the clearing with his mom watching me. He gave me a single nod and headed for his car with his mom. I had no idea what that was about. I was glad he'd come back though. Short of hurting Neil I wasn't sure how I would have kept him off me. In the past I'd have simply drawn blood to start with but after last year with the constant fights with him dad made be promise not to do it anymore. So, staying away from him was my alternative.

Cassie followed me to my room smiling.

"So, I didn't see any wounds on Neil how did you keep him from being a jerk?"

"Matt showed up. Good thing Alpha had him go back to check on us." Cassie frowned.

"He didn't tell Matt to go back. Matt just disappeared. Alpha was ticked. He'll get leeway since he's new. What did he do to Neil?"

"Just knocked him head over tail." we laughed.

"I'd have loved to see that. He's cute?"

"Who?"

"Matt. Not to mention his mom is very pretty. He'd have gorgeous pups I'm sure." I looked at her sideways.

"Yeah, why are you mentioning that?"

"Because most of the girls are already wondering if he's mate material. No way to know when we're all fury and he was quick to head out when he was dressed." She giggled. "I heard Maggie say he'd make any girl happy."

"Right. It's late. Go to bed we have school in the morning."

"Alright. You have to tell me how many of the girls at school flirt with him. He's gonna be really popular." I rolled my eyes and went to bed.

Anne was waiting for me out front of school the next day. She had her arms crossed and was frowning.

"Uh-oh." I said stopping in front of her. "What did I do?"

"You told Tom to look after me. As sweet as it is to know that you care, it kept everyone from asking me to dance."

"Rule number one." I reminded her.

"It's a dance not a fling on the dance floor." I took her hand and pulled her into step with me toward the school doors.

"How about I make it up to you. Come to practice after class and afterward I'll make it up to you." She gave a little smile.

"Alright." I passed the new guy as I went in, he was watching me again I noticed. I made a detour and stopped after telling Anne I'd see her later.

"Hey thanks again for the help last night."

"No problem." He said looking toward the doors. His eyes were hard as he looked at me.

"She your girlfriend?"

"The current one." I said smiling. He didn't crack a smile. "Tough crowd. I'll see you around Matt." I went on, He'd not seemed to happy about my girlfriend. I really hoped he wasn't another Neil. One was all I could take. School went like school always does, except for the walking mountain in the hall who I caught periodically watching me. Fred and Barney, or Kevin and Victor were their real names but since they were best friends and rarely separate, they were Fred and Barney to everyone, caught me just before our last class.
