Lindon's POV-

A never ending darkness washed over me in waves, and I resisted the urge to scream as the water grew as cold as death.

I was alone, was this all there was after life?

-For surely I must be dead, the sea had claimed me and I embraced her willingly.

I was not breathing, but I was not dying either, strange and yet it felt natural to live without a beating heart.

For what felt like hours I drifted in constant shadow and icy water, until my skin was white and leeched of human warmth.

A light had arisen in the distance and it grew with a slow shyness until I was no longer blind to my surroundings, yet it were better had I been blind, such horrors did meet my eyes in that moment of unveiling...

Human corpses, rotting, white, alien shapes that were half buried in sand, their shrivelled limbs reaching towards a non-existent sun. They were large in number and they were lying in rows like a garden of white, broken flowers.

I felt deeply disturbed by what I saw and would have wept if my new eyes could do so. For I realised with each passing body that this garden of death was made up of human creatures and I cried internally for my fallen brothers.

Moments dragged by as I drifted through and beyond the monstrous deformities below me. The light grew brighter and I was confused to see the source was fire.

Fire that thrived in the heart of the blackest, deepest depths of the ocean.

This fire was not white, red and orange but a sickly green that emitted heavy purple smoke even underwater, I could smell it's fuel: anger, lust, rage, blood, and death all fed the tall, green flames that painted the sea rock with dancing shadows...

"Welcome human..."

The slick, dark voice as deep as rolling thunder made me tear my eyes away from the murderous dance of the flames and stare upwards to search for the owner of such a voice.

She was darkness, cloaked in shadow and decorated with clusters of star light. Her black hair fell across the length of her supple, curvaceous figure and only just hid the blood red fin of her tail. Her eyes were hooded and cloaked in long, tempting eyelashes that fluttered as she surveyed me. Her lips were a dark red, red as the bloody colour of her tail, the shade standing out against the deathly pallor of her white skin.

Fear threatened to choke me, and I could no longer look upon her face, but stared back into the flames.

"You have a debt to pay sailor....a debt to me."

Confusion clouded my mind as I tried to search for reason in her words but I could find none.

"I owe you no debt woman."

She laughed, and the sound was uncomfortably like the growl of a feral animal.

"I am no woman my darling human man... I am the Sea-Siren, a goddess beneath the waves! You are in my domaine, and alive I might add. The princess begged for your life and I listened."

A stab of grief ripped through me as I remembered the beautiful mermaid, where was she now?

"There is always a price to pay for such acts, she must pay for what she asked of me... I cannot approach her on her fathers land,

however, you can-"

I looked horrified and would have refused her request outright, had her eyes not flashed, and her white hands not reached for my throat. I suddenly remembered the garden of human bodies and my courage failed me.

"-and you will."

She stated firmly, her voice quiet and dangerous.

"I want her heart sailor, not to be stolen in love but ripped from her pretty white chest."

She disappeared for a moment before reappearing with a slim black glass dagger, it glowed with an eerie hunger in the fire light and I was repulsed to feel myself drawn to it's power.

"Take it."

She placed it with force into my shaking grip and I cried out in pain as it sliced into my palm. She bent her head down and licked the cut until it became a black line, it was not healed but numb... I felt a sickness deep in my stomach.

"Now sailor, you may sleep, and dream of beauty, courage and love..."

Her voice was mocking and the last sound I heard before I was consumed by oblivion was her hate-filled laughter bouncing off the sea rock and filling my head...
