Chapter One:
Water consumed me all so completely, it was cold and terrifying. Scratching and clawing at my throat harshly attempting to try to keep some oxygen within my body. Physically shaking and clamping my lips together harshly, using my teeth sucking my lips inwards and biting them down. I will not die, not like this. My lungs burnt harshly and they felt like they were set on fire. They were on fire and my whole body shook, my hands on the edge of the metal tub. The clawed hands that were tangled into my matted copper- brown hair and they held me down under the water, my hands shook attempting to lift myself up out of water.
All the sounds above the water were muffled but I could make out laughter specifically Rohana's laugh, sounding soft and feminine and yet I could hear the sinister side to it. Well I suppose laughing at someone holding someone's head under water until they struggled is pretty borderline psychotic, my head was hoisted from the water and I spluttered up the water. The spinning in my head began instantly and I swayed on my feet, Cairo pushed my down to my knees.
"Bow before our Lady and Queen Rohana the just and powerful." Cairo's black hair had the texture of straw, his face was the texture of sharp bark.
Dark bright golden eyes that were almond shape and I stared up at Rohana's etherical beautiful face, pale almost glowing alabaster skin. Not a single blemish on her visage, she had a short sloped nose with pert pouty lips painted in bright oxblood red lipstick. She had a gold crown on her head and matching jewellery. Though her necklace bore bright oval rubies three in the centre of the collar of gold diamonds that was wrapped around her throat. The gown she wore was an oxblood colour matching her lipstick and had swirls of black embroidery along the base of the skirt and was trimmed with gold silk at the cuffs, collars and the hem of the skirt.
She had on opera length gold gloves and held up a decadent crystal glass that contained a dark liquid that appeared almost congealed within the glass. Her hair was swept up a top of her head sitting just beneath her crown and was adorned with rubies and yellow diamond pins
Those neon green eyes flickered towards me in amusement," Cairo..." she drawled out in a purr almost, "lift her head towards me. I fancy looking upon her face it will please me to see her suffer. It will remind me of how lucky I am."
In an instant he had forced my face upwards to meet her gaze and she placed her glass down on the small round table beside her throne. Then rose up from her throne almost as if she were dancing from her gracefulness. She almost floated towards me and her hand came below my chin forcing it up to her.
A sharp smile came across those lips," do you know what your name means Farren? Wanderer. Now wanderer..." she paused emphasising wanderer like a curse almost," do you know what my name means? Actually I doubt you can even read or are even educated enough to understand it."
"Rohana means one who travels a higher path." I retorted out and suddenly a soft hand wrapped around my throat lifting me above the ground quickly.
"It is quite improper to speak to me. You are no one don't ever forget that." Her fingers of her free hand which is suddenly her long slender fingers stroked down the right side of my face," I have a goal in life and you as your name suggests are nothing..."

"Get up!" I yelled at my older sister, who proceeded to roll over and to bury her face back into the pillows of our shared bed and she grumbled a list of profanities of to me.
"Go away, its an ungodly hour." She pulled duvet further over her, she hogged our duvet all throughout the night and insisted that I was much more thick skinned so I could sleep by the window.
the left shutter was wobbly on its hinges and did not close all of the way.
Grabbing the water jug that was sat on our rickety three drawer dresser that was sat below the window , "I highly suggest you get up and have a bath. Because you reek Nesryn and I thought you wanted to go to the market today to look at some new ribbons for your bonnet."
"Like we can afford that. How much did you even manage to get for those mangled squirrels you killed ." She opened those sharp severe grey eyes and glowered here eyes towards me and the jug in my hand, "don't you dare..." she warned and squealed loudly as the cold water splashed on her.
Nesryn jumped up from the bed and my two younger brother popped their heads around the door, Lochlan and Gaius. They were twins and they used that to their daily advantage to utterly confuse everyone, Nesryn was quite often the one aiding them in their endeavours. They both chuckled and Nesryn glared at them and then at me," I suggest you all get out of this room before the jug ends up being thrown at someone's head accidentally."
The twins quickly shut the door and darted away, probably to go and annoy our mother.
"But I need to change too." I glanced at her and then down at my muddy trousers, towards the sleeve of my undershirt that was torn up from climbing up trees within the Wilting woods.
"Everyone knows how terrible you look though Farren." Nesryn smirked and I rolled my eyes at her as she strode towards the three drawer dresser, that although we shared she occupied the two larger drawers and left the two smaller ones for me.
However, she was slowly beginning to occupy the top right one two as some of her ribbons had snuck into the drawer.
"Nesryn."
"Farren."
We both burst into laughter and she glanced over towards me," how much money did you get for them then?"
"Five silver pieces."
"Well that will only buy ten ribbons."
Shaking my head at her and I opened my drawer to get on some of my smarter clothes.
