Chapter 3

After school Jackie and Lilliana were heading home together. If they could even consider their home a home. They both lived at the orphanage. Lilliana had been there since she had been born. Her mother had died during child birth and she had no knowledge of her father. Jackie had come to the orphanage when Lilliana was 5. She was believed to be the same age. She had been found on the streets living in a dark alley after her parents disowned her. She wouldn't say why. Since then they had shared a room together. There wasn't much space and they were supposed to help out but neither of them were able to. Lilliana was unable to help out because her headaches always hurt too much for her to work. Jackie was often busy with something else that she wouldn't say.
As they were walking home they heard a voice behind them.
"Jackie! Lilliana! Wait up"
They both stopped but only Jackie turned around to see who the voice was. Who she saw was Hazel running to try and catch up to them.
"Hi, Hazel" Jackie said.
Hazel caught up to them "do you always head this way?" She asked?
"I guess. This is our first time walking home from school, but I'm guessing we would head this way" Jackie responded.
The three of them continued walking
"Oh. Where do you live?" Hazel asked
Lilliana responded "the orphanage. We're both orphans"
"What about you?" Jackie asked Hazel
"Oh. Well I actually feel kinda awkward telling you after you just told me where you live. I live in the big mansion about a street away from the orphanage" she replied
"Why would you be embarrassed about that?" Lilliana asked
"Because."
"Because what?" Jackie asked
"Because I don't like being rich. People think I'm a snob when I'm not. All I want is to change the world for the better. The only good thing about being rich is that I have the money to help. I pretty much just donate all the money I get to different charity's. I actually started a fund recently so that anybody that has a home can go to school."
"Why would you do such a thing?" Lilliana asked
"Because I felt bad passing the orphanage everyday knowing that I had all I could ever want while they don't even have what they need"
"Did you mean for everyone there to go school?" Jackie asked.
"Yes. Why would you ask?" Hazel asked
"Because we didn't get enough money. Only two of the children there were able to go to school. And there are at least thirty kids there" Jackie said
"What?! I created the fund so anybody with a home could go to school. Why is it that only two kids at the orphanage could go to school?"
"I don't know" Jackie stated simply. Neither had known that was the reason that they had been told that two kids at the orphanage would get the opportunity to go to school.
"I had hoped to see more new students students at the school. I only saw five new students today"
There was an awkward pause.
"We're here. See you in math tomorrow, Hazel. Me and Lilliana need to go"
"Ok. Bye Jackie. Bye Lilliana"
"Bye Hazel"
At that Jackie and Lilliana having arrived at the orphanage went inside.
