Were they, my decisions that caused you to fall with all our other friends?

That girl was strange. Like many other people, she was tied onto threads.

The threads of fate.

Once the gods were done playing, they would snip those threads off, one by one.

Till she would fall to the floor, shattering into a million pieces.

But unlike other people, she wasn't fully shattered.

In fact, all her threads weren't snipped off.

She was hanging on one, forgotten for a while.

Until those gods wanted to play once more.

Until those gods wanted to play once more

DURING THE ARCHON WAR

Xiao sat on top of what would later become Wanshu Inn. Beside him was you, tending to his wounds.

"Xiao you're too reckless, Morax can't afford losing someone else," you said, quickly ripping the bandages off with your teeth.

Xiao sighed, you were his closest, well, companion to say the least. You fought side by side in the Archon War, along with many other friends.

You were also, the only person with romantic feelings towards him.

And he... it's complicated.

"Come on, we can't stall any longer, Morax needs us," Xiao said, standing up. You sighed standing up beside him.

You gave him a soft grin and wrapped your arms around him quickly, pulling away before Xiao would try to push you away.

"Before you go, could you answer my question?" you asked softly, though you knew the answer.

You've asked the same question since you two met.

That one question you were compassionate about.

That one question Xiao was afraid of answering.

But instead of facing his fears, he took the safer route.

"No."

"Well, another day, another chance, right?" you said with a pained smile. Xiao's brows furrow, why did you think the answer was going to change, how naive of you.

Since day one, you've asked this question,

"Do you like me?"

And the answer has always been a harsh,

"No"

Silence passed between you.

You reminded him of the wind, both a gentle force against all people and a harsh whirlwind, ready to knock anyone off their feet.

But somedays, the wind stops blowing.

And it seems that you have also stopped blowing.

Perhaps, the gods had gotten bored of you.

Or, you, got bored of yourself.

Xiao never recovered from your death, he still, has many things he wants to tell you, many things he wants to do with you.

The main regret he has was,

not truly answering your question,

him not saying, "yes"
