Some Minor Setbacks

She could have pretended that she slept. But she was really excited for the quest, so how could she? Anyways, Tumblr had been calling her name... Around five in the morning, someone knocked on their door.

"Who is it?" she whispered, getting out of her bed and tiptoeing past Annabeth's towards the door.

"It's Sadie, I have a question," answered the fading British accent laced with Sadie Kane's voice.

Liz opened the door carefully, seeing her Egyptian friend standing there, looking rather pale. "What's wrong, hon?"

"I should be used to flying boats, right? Well, maybe it's something else. I'm not well, though," she replied.

"Come on, let's go down to the sick bay, I'll IM our camp doctor, Will, and see if he can help out a bit. I'm not particularly good with First Aid... the one class I decided not to take, haha," Liz said, leading the slightly younger girl downstairs. She grabbed a golden drachma off of one of the tables, turned on the sink and a flashlight, and said, "Hey, Iris, can you please call Will Solace, son of Apollo?"

The rainbow shimmered, revealing Solace, still asleep. One of his sisters yelled at him from across the room to wake up, and he sat up abruptly, seeing Liz and Sadie staring back at him. "Liz! Gods, it is early, what's up?"

"Hey there, sleeping beauty, I've got a patient who's a bit nauseous, any help?" Liz replied, having Sadie step closer for Will to take a look.

"Take her temperature for me, Liz, if you would," he requested.

She nodded dutifully, grabbed the thermometer, and took Sadie's temp. "Uh, 100 degrees... That's probably bad, isn't it?"

"Could be worse, but yeah. Okay, and you said her stomach hurt? Um, get her some peppermint tea for that, and then... Oh, gods, she wouldn't be a demigod, would she?" he asked.

"I'm afraid not. She's a magician, do you think that ambrosia would still turn her blood to fire?" Liz asked.

"I mean, if she was a godling, no, but I am afraid that probably isn't safe. Okay, for the fever, alternate ibuprofen and Tylenol, and if that doesn't bring it down by tomorrow, then call me back."

"Thank you, Solace."

"Any time, Jackson."

The message dissipated. "Alright, Kane, let's get you some of that tea. We'll start with ibuprofen, and then when everyone else is awake we can do the Tylenol. Okay?"

"Thanks, Liz."

"Hey, anything you need, I'm here for you. Just think of me as the mom of this quest, right?" She laughed. "Come on, now."

They took her tea above decks, where Carter was on his shift. He was pretty good with the Argo, better than Liz at least, and he took to flying it naturally. Looking up, she saw Festus, puffing steam into the air, his wings spread out as though a protective cover. She did love that dragon.

"Carter, who's after you?" Liz called out.

"I think it's Zach, why?" he answered.

"Just curious. Hey, we should probably show you sister how to fly this thing, shouldn't we?" Liz asked, hoping it would take Sadie's mind off the sickness.

"Yeah, come here, Sadie, I'll teach you," Carter agreed.

"I don't need teaching. I could figure it out on my own," she argued.
