Promising His Life

Zia

That morning, they woke up to Horus shouting on the intercom. "GET UP, HEROES OF EARTH. WE'RE HERE TO DISCUSS THE PLANS FOR THE TEMPORARY GODLY PHARAOH."

"Bloody hell, you'd think he'd give us more time to sleep," Sadie complained, covering her head with her pillow as Zia squinted her eyes open.

"Gods have no concept of basic human needs like sleep and food," Zia groaned, rolling out of bed. "I hope he knows we're getting breakfast first. What time is it?"

"Five in the morning."

"Gods of Egypt, why?" She started for the mess hall. Liz was already there, leaning back in her chair and sipping a cup of coffee.

"Hey, girls, glad to see someone else awake. Sounds like we've got company."

"It's Horus," Zia said.

"Great. From what Carter's told me, he sounds wonderful," Liz said, sarcasm thick in her tone.

Soon enough, Horus came into the room, accompanied by Seshat, Bes, and Tutu. "Good morning, everyone!"

"Ra isn't even in the sky," Sadie told him. "Why are we doing this so early?"

"Because there are some big decisions being made, so we figured you might want some time," Seshat explained. Zia could tell she was now more informed about what would be happening that day.

"Decisions?" Liz repeated. "And here I thought you had a plan."

"We do," Horus said, "but Seshat thinks you should be allowed to have an opinion."

The rest of the group eventually stumbled in, and they began summoning their breakfasts. Everyone was still waking up, so the gods gave them a moment before discussing the heavy stuff.

Percy and Liz sacrificed part of their meal to Poseidon, and Horus frowned. "Why don't we have something like that?"

Carter sighed and handed the god a piece of bacon. "Here, this can be your offering." Zia held back a laugh as Horus happily munched on it.

"Thank you, Carter. This is why you're my favorite host."

"Wow, did you hear that?" Carter said while rolling his eyes. "I'm his favorite meat suit." Zia, again, stifled a laugh, knowing that Horus was oblivious to how annoying Carter found him.

"I can add you to my rotation if you want," Liz offered. "I try to keep all of the gods happy because it makes my life easier."

"Suck up," Percy whispered.

"It also enables you to trash talk half of them," Zia added.

"Not Khione, though," Liz said before shuddering.

"Never Khione," Leo agreed, a haunted look in his eyes.

Zia was sure there was a story there, but she wasn't sure she wanted to know. All she knew about Khione was that she was Felix's mother, and that was why he could do snow magic (despite Egypt having no snow).

"That's a nice offer, Miss Jackson, but I'd quite rather it be my own people sacrificing to me."

"Hey, I was a Pharaoh in a past life!"

"I thought that I recognized your soul," Seshat realized. She felt the air surrounding the seer's head as if her soul was something tangible floating just above her.

"Hey, so you're the god of writing, right?"

"Yes."

"So if you like blessed my fanfic would it automatically be really good?"
